Snakeberries

Description:

The Snake Berries plant is a mysterious and semi-magical vine found in shadowed forest glades and ruins overgrown with old magic. Its serpentine vines creep across forest floors and low branches, often mistaken for actual snakes in dim light.

Stems & Growth:

  • Vines are dark, glossy, and coil in twisting patterns like constrictors
  •
  • Tendrils often wrap around nearby trees, stones, or themselves
  •
  • The plant hisses faintly when disturbed, though it’s unclear if this is magical mimicry or an actual defense

Leaves:

  • Shaped like elongated fangs or arrowheads
  •
  • Deep forest green with pale undersides
  •
  • Often curl inward, protecting younger clusters of berries

Berries:

  • Grow in tight clusters along mature vines
  •
  • Two types: deep violet and icy white, both smooth and slightly luminous
  •
  • Purple berries are bitter, mildly toxic, and induce vivid hallucinations or prophetic dreams
  •
  • White berries are sweet and rare, said to neutralize the purple’s effects or bring clarity to visions

Folklore:

"According to forest lore, the plant was once the sacred hair of a serpent god who shed his form to watch over mortal lands. Some say the vines slither slightly at night or whisper the names of those who will dream of death."
