Silver is the primary material used in weapons by the vangaurd and harolds against supernaturals.
History & Usage
Everyday use
Multiple supernaturals are vunrible to silver and is often used as a weapon
Humans or other supernaturals may use silver jewelry in order to self defense. In the same way, colloquial silver is used as pepper spray
Against Vampires
When used against vampires the wound is unable to heal at it's normal advanced rate, but rather kills the tissue and if not treated (cutting away the tissue, proper feeding after) may cause necrosis, making silver one of the most deadly and affective weapons against vampires.
Another effect is that it's highly corrosive to the skin.

Law & Regulation
Due to it's weaponization, nearly every country has done a buy back for silver and it's a regulated material.
