Makuna'i Jungle

A large jungle that occupies much of the southeastern portion of Xaishre. Long ago, magic from the feywilds leaked into Makuna'i and animated several of the plants living there, turning them into plant creatures. Many of these plant creatures became species capable of reproducing and still exist today. Inhabitants of the forest often hunt these animate plants for food. Some plant creatures that bear fruit, and therefore don't need to be killed to be eaten, are kept as "livestock," and some ornamental plants are kept as pets.

Omalani Tribe

The Omalani people are an ancestor-worshiping tribe with mingled human, wild elf, and orc bloodlines. They are located in the northeastern portion of Makuna'i, near the coast, where settlers from Home and Zidrik landed long ago. Much of the animating magic of the plants is absent here. All Omalani people share a mix of human, elf, and orc blood. Different phenotypes make different people have more prominent features of one or two races over the others. Standing is not based on demographic, but merit.

Memyahi Tribe

The Memyahi people are a tribe of wood elves who worship nature spirits and treat the numerous plant creatures they share their home with like family. If a member of the Memyahi tribe proves themselves worthy, the elder treesingers offer to perform a ritual to turn the aspirant into a woodling. This is considered both a great honor and a form of enlightenment, and is rarely turned down.

Geography

Much of the eastern portion is coastal, and some of the northeastern portion is receding due to woodcutters from Zidrik. The Dowella River cuts the forest almost in half, and the Sthoote river runs through the forest to the northeast.

Fauna & Flora

Ents - Several types. Some have fruit and will trade for stories, company, or fertilizer.   Mo'upni - Bush with big, sweet, juicy, berries.   Guby - Cat sized tuber, with 4 long roots, that burrows into the ground. Variably bipedal or quadrupedal. No leaves or flowers. Unknown why (or how) it stores so much energy. Doesn't move much.   Jiko'oli - Round gourd with a face. Large enough for a child to sit in. Naturally bioluminescent from interior bulbs at the base. Moves by picking itself up with its vines and walking.   Teosi - Walking, dwarf-sized bush. Aromatic flowers and leaves. Used for tea and seasoning.   Usut - Gnobby, woody, stump-like creature. Scavenger. Grows a lichen as it grows older that if finds irritating. Perfectly content letting people, or other animals or plants, scrape it off to eat. Lichen has a pungent flavor and is used as seasoning.   Lu'lasi - Pretty, orchid-like flower. Climbs trees with its roots. Can glide to nearby trees. Ornamental. Aromatic.   Nelo Tu - Water lily with no stem. Paddles like a duck with small, fan-shaped roots. Most will hold the weight of a child. Larger specimens will hold the weight of an adult. Ornamental.   Siki - Diminutive bulb that clumsily flies around with big, dopey, petals. Aromatic. Indirectly aids pollination by attracting pollinators and then carrying them around the forest, where they land on other plants.   Nakchutki - A quite literal stick bug. Even has a few leaves.   Moab - Slug-like, slimy root bulb with a single leaf growing out of its forehead. Surprisingly fast.
