Demographics

Kymera is unlike most Theian states in its demography, even though elves make up the majority of its population they still only represent around 35% of it. Its access to the ocean and numerous ports give the city a cosmopolitan draw that virtually any race or species can claim. Like a distant lighthouse, Kymera attracts tens of thousands from Terisirae each year with the promise of a mysterious foreign land. Waiting periods can drag on and chartering a ship can take multiple years, making it all the more alluring. This relationship has given Kymera a large merchant class, and a presence of political dignitaries, unlike any other city in the world.

Government

The Diarchy exerts its control over Kymera, as it does in all of its cities, but it has taken a hands-off approach for hundreds of years. Previous Diarchy's reasoned that, because the city was unlike any other under their control, it should be given more autonomy to rule itself, not so much that it forgets to obey commands, but enough to be representative of its international inhabitants. The city has the Teal House, a government body of 95 elected representatives that serve 4-year terms, separated into 5 blocks of 19 to keep powers from becoming too entrenched or stagnant. They are frequently reminded of their subservience, but are still given enough space to learn themselves what Kymera most needs.

Infrastructure

Kymera’s main draw is its enormous port, built from the first stone to be strong enough to withstand the Restless Sea. Deep trenches have been dug into underwater basins that stretch out a quarter mile, and thick limestone shore breaks make the interior waters of the city’s harbor calm and stable all year round. Directly inland from the harbor is the merchant quarter, a bazaar of stalls and stores nearly as large as Huvora’s Wolfwater Market. Nearby is the Mariner’s District, an area of upscale living and luxury residences, made specifically for the wealthy ship owners and foreign dignitaries weary of the sea and in need of respite.

Guilds and Factions

The crown jewel of Kymera is its most popular and most powerful guild, Living Memory. Founded in 1055 Y.E., the adventurers guild climbed the ranks faster than any other in history, becoming A-rank within a 18 months of its founding. Much of this success was due to its guildmaster, an enigmatic Tiefling whose real name fell out of common use years ago. Now, he is known only by the title bestowed upon him for a career of complete victory, Fruition.   Living Memory hosts many tournaments within its own ranks, encouraging its members to compete for titles in different categories, such as Warrior, Protector, Mage, Scholar, and more. In the case of the former, the bragging rights that accompany the title are to become “the most powerful Warrior in Living Memory”.

History

Kymera was always destined to become a hub of commerce, travel, and rest. It was commissioned in the 200s Y.E. by Q'al Phassa to house those displaced by The Impetus and the creatures it spawned. It was the first city to be constructed in the Sister States after the magical sundering and was built to be impenetrable.   A round stone wall encircles Kymera, leaving only its east-facing port vulnerable. The shore breaks built to mangle waves are also set on tracks deep beneath the waters, allowing them to close and completely seal the city. Towers are stationed around the city’s perimeter at every quarter mile, each linked together to create a field of powerful abjuring magic. And, from Kymera’s west-facing main gates is a long, straight road leading all the way to the Teal House, where artillery and ballistae are deployable within minutes.    A siege requiring these defenses has never fallen upon Kymera, but it remains ever ready and conducts monthly readiness tests, even the average citizen is encouraged to have an emergency plan and escape route planned.
