Crixis

The Beacon in the Sands, Crixis is an enormous settlement located near the geographic center of the Spirixian Desert.

Demographics

Given its location, Crixis is a majority Elven, Orcish, and Smokeless. As an extension of the Colum kingdom, it also has a large population of Humans, and Halflings. It is a psuedo-port town, one of the few in the world, acting as a station for weary desert travelers to stop in while crossing the sands.

Government

Though the land that the city of Crixis sits upon is owned by and an extension of the Colum Kingdom, only certain institutions abide by its laws. Crixis would otherwise observe the statues of Aldrané, the elven desert capital.    Legal precedent in the area allows for institutions to act according to either legal system and disallows for individuals to be held accountable by the authority they do not recognize.

Guilds and Factions

The largest and perhaps most important organization within Crixis is the Temple of Solanil. Solanil is a minor god in most pantheons but is the second most important in the deserts of Spirix, next only to sea goddess Thassa, her mother.    The Temple of Solanil houses dozens of clerics who practice daily to create a steady supply of water that runs through the city. The temple itself is also primarily responsible for overseeing pilgramiges by native Spirixians and adventurers crossing the desert.

History

The first buildings that made what would become modern day Crixis were built between the years Y.E. 23 and Y.E. 29, their construction was overseen by King Tyrus of Colum. The city itself is owned by the ruling monarch of Colum. This dissonance between Crixis' ownership and its ruling authority has created tension between Spirix and Colum that has only become more intense over time.   The situation is only made worse by the fact that permission was never acquired by King Tyrus to begin construction of the many structures that constitute the settlement. Ever since, Colum has neglected to get proper approval for the ever-expanding town, encroaching on the sovereign territories of Spirix's deserts. According to the natives who live there and the elder councils that hold power, this is a great existential threat to the independence and autonomy of local legal/political systems. Those who are born within Crixis are also granted dual citizenship by the Colum Kingdom, a policy that is seen by locals as disrespectful to their homeland and its rule. One final conflict between the natives of Spirix and Colum is that "Crixis" is gibberish, mashing the Spirixian word for Sand and the common word for Building.

Natural Resources

Water, both natural and magically created, is the single most valuable and important of resources in Crixis and the desert it sits within.   Crixis also enjoys a small mineral deposit of gold and titanium ore, though its value is dwarfed by the Temple of Solanil's water.
