7 Staves

Structure

7 Staves has two ranks for its members, Masters and Scholars. The guild exists primarily as a research institute, only favoring adventurer's for their ability to gain items of power and learn new and powerful secrets of the world.   The Masters of the guild are few, seven seats that are occupied by members of great strength and greater knowledge. Each of them is called Staff Master followed by their numbered position, one being the strongest and going down to seven. Each is allowed a nickname to reflect their number, for example Staff Master Bradley is called Brayden of the Four Seasons.   Under each Master is a set of 50 scholars. The scholars are given instruction and assigned rank by their higher-ups, each a studious and meticulous assistant to the research of their assigned Master. Rarely one of the seven Master seats will open and it is tradition for the highest rank of their school to supplant them, though the Masters may elect their own candidates from any in the guild.

Public Agenda

7 Staves exists with the goal of furthering research and magical understanding in Ec'algor, to one day perhaps undo the fallout of chaotic magical energies of The Impetus. They employ and accept adventurers when they believe it can be beneficial to their research, though their criteria for acceptance is higher than most.

Assets

7 Staves is an old institute, with as many magical artifacts as members. Given this age and their reticence to reveal their true strength, it is impossible to generate a number for the value of the guild's assets. With what is currently in use, it is estimated that the guild operates close to their break-even point, using any adventuring profits after wages to purchase more research materials.

History

Y.E. 505 - 7 Staves is established by a group of powerful wizards led by a man known only by the name Peonacles   Y.E. 609 - 7 Staves organizes itself in modern-day Hearthwater, creating the first large buildings that would lead to the city's construction   Y.E. 884 - 7 Staves founds a second building in modern-day Crixis, its wealth of magical knowledge like an oasis in the sands that invites travelers   Y.E. 873 - 7 Staves begins offering positions to adventurers, ending their tenure as a pure research institute and becoming the first dual adventuring organization of its kind   Y.E. 900 - 7 Staves mourns the loss of Peonacles, infighting amongst the guild causes 3 of its Masters to abscond or abdicate, causing a power vacuum that threatens to destroy it   Y.E. 908 - After years of argument and aggression, a deal is brokered amongst all the members of 7 Staves to grant the four most prolific scholars emergency powers and the temporary status of Acting Master. They stabilize the guild through group effort and, with respect from the remaining members, become permanent Masters, beginning the tradition of succession   Y.E. 1022 - 7 Staves establishes a guild house in every major city in Terisirae, as well as an outpost in Port Fidelity, and a communications branch in Galicony   Y.E. 1093 - 7 Staves becomes the first of the High Powers
