Kamylion / Chameleon Dragon

The chameleon dragon, or kamylion, is quick to adapt to any environment it inhabits, able to change attributes such as its coloration, plating, and some aspects of its internal chemical makeup within the space of a minute if stressed.

Genetics and Reproduction

Because of the low number of chameleon dragons out in the wild, many believe that they may have trouble conceiving or having the young survive to adulthood. Many claim the latter, as several observed kamylion hatchlings seem to morph randomly, even in a stable environment.

Ecology and Habitats

Due to the kamylion's adaptive traits, it can survive and prosper in nearly any habitat. It may have to learn new ways to hunt for food if it visits a new area, though it will rarely be a victim of the environment.

Facial characteristics

The most outstanding feature of the kamylion is its eyes, which remain unchanged even between environmental forms. A ring of raised skin encircles each eye, which is able to move independently of the other eye, even slightly out of the kamylion's head. This endows it with a range of roughly 300 degrees of vision while able to track two targets at once.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Mimics are known to meld onto kamylions and hide as parts of its body, successful due to the natural morphing its host may undergo when entering a new environment. These mimics act as scavengers afterwards, with many feasting on remnants of the chameleon dragon's prey and some daring ones picking the meat off the predator's teeth.
