Glassprey

Glassprey are similar to osprey, with the added defense of several sharp rods of inorganic matter that grow naturally from the bird. These are often clustered around the talons and the interior of the beak, with several flexible ones located in the wings that can be propelled from the body. They reside in colder, northern climates and forests, in large nests made up of nearly any materials they can find. They are known to be highly territorial and competitive, often the bane of many Bushback Woods hunting parties if they approach too close to a nest.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Though its hunting skills like other raptors are impressive, what sets them apart is their glassy growths. Clustered around the talons, beak, and wings, these can be used either defensively to prevent grabbing, or offensively by shooting at its target. Some propelled glass rods have enough force to puncture through and out of a human hand.

Ecology and Habitats

Glassprey construct large nests, often up to ten times their size, made of various sticks, animal bones, and shards of their own glass. These are typically strengthened in the winter to keep out chilly winds and to prevent it from falling over under the weight of snow. Glassprey often reside in northern forests and still hunt through the winter.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Glassprey glass that remains after an attack, or plucked from its corpse, is sought after as a spellcasting material or used in some art pieces in local cultures.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The glassprey possesses eyes as keen as any other bird of prey, able to scope out targets from over a mile away. Its hearing is less impressive, though it is able to sense an animal's heartbeat within a few feet of it.
