Floating Isles

The Floating Isles are a collection of land that rise straight up into the sky. Though the masses of land themselves defy gravity, its inhabitants are still forced to the ground. The Floating Isles are home to many Aarakocra and harpies, though some less flying-endowed species are able to live on its lower levels. The land is under the authority of the Wiokwi, a group of respected aarakocra elders. Because most things are traded for in kind or barter, finding a native vendor possessing drahm or kyur above ground level is rare.
  • Ligiri, a respected member of the community possibly up for nomination into the Wiokwi due to her care for many of the local children, is having trouble with her ISSUE. Additionally, the ruckus her son has lately been causing (see next hook) is a possible threat to her nomination into the Wiokwi.
  •
  • Stormbeak, a cocky but powerful hunter, is making a scene about only getting half the share of the slain beast's worth as one member of an 8-man band. He claims to have carried the battle on his own back, suggesting that at least 75% of the pay should be his, and even that would be an insult.

  • The son of a friend of a friend of a noble in (some Tylotian town) is going through the Floating Isles as part of a vacation with his friends, all of whom are avid partiers. The gang is going about town and clearly going against culture and tradition, if the locals' looks are to mean anything. They can be found cavorting around the lower isles and trying to flirt with every female they see, and will eventually head to Ground Control for many rounds of drinking before going to Elevated Comforts to rest later.

Inns/Taverns

Ground Control, the local pub and inn set up at the base of the Floating Isles primarily for travelers. A few aarakocra work in positions of power, but it is owned and funded from abroad by Essen Tyus, a gnoll businessman living in the Tylotian Empire. Its local owner is Biearm, an aarakocra who feels somewhat defeated by being an aarakocra in a tavern that tries to tune down the traditional decor in favor of one that travelers might find more hospitable. Additionally, the fact that he was nominated into this role makes Biearm believe the tribe cares little about him.   Cotathileem, roughly translating to "The Table of Great Communal Feasts," is where the majority of the tribe's members eat their daily dinner. It takes up the whole of one floating island, featuring two long wooden tables spanning the whole length, flanked by stumps that serve as chairs. The dining area is encircled by thick trees that let light come in from above, but seem like an untouched forest to any viewing the island from the side or below. It is strictly off-limits to any non-tribalists who have not been invited. Sweebee (a sour, red, starfruit-shaped fruit) grows from vines that wrap around the trunks and dangle from above.   Elevated Comforts, a high-end inn situated just under one of the lowest isles so that its roof scrapes just along its bottom. There are ongoing renovations to allow guests to climb up through the inn to the top of an isle where a private garden will be set up, but this idea is still in talks with the already-reluctant Wiokwi. Its owner, Teresa Maggesh, is a very polite and gracious metalmouth lady who is secretly pulling strings and more concerned with the coin and attention of wealthy customers over the traditions and attitudes of the Wiokwi.

Fauna & Flora

Crawling species of plants like vines are abundant in the Floating Isles, often weaving together with those on lower levels to create thick trellises, some of which can even be climbed. Given the islands' high elevation and sheer drops, most of its fauna are small birds and flying insects.
