Magirite

Magirite

Magirite is a rare crimson crystal known for its unique ability to amplify, stabilize, and conduct magical energy. Found only in a handful of locations across Enderlin, it is the single most important material underpinning modern arcane practice, rune-craft, and magical industry. Where Magirite flows, power—both magical and political—inevitably follows.

Nature and Properties

In its raw form, Magirite resonates strongly with ambient magic, responding to runes, spells, and ley-currents with remarkable efficiency. Untreated crystal is volatile, capable of discharging uncontrolled magical effects if fractured or improperly shaped. For this reason, Magirite must be carefully refined and stabilized before it can be safely used or handled.

Once refined, Magirite becomes remarkably stable, retaining its magical potency indefinitely. Its crystalline structure allows it to be carved, inlaid, or cut into standardized forms without losing effectiveness, making it equally suited for rune engraving, arcane engines, enchantment matrices, and currency.

Baraz-Dûm and Dwarven Control

The greatest known reserves of Magirite lie beneath the Dwarven hold of Baraz-Dûm, often called the Red Crystal Hold. The wealth and influence of its ruling mining clans are built almost entirely upon the extraction and control of this resource.

The dwarves of Baraz-Dûm are famed as the finest runesmiths in Enderlin. Rather than practicing arcane spellcasting—an art many of them distrust—they channel magic through carved runes and Magirite inlays. This approach is considered by them to be safer, more disciplined, and more honorable than spellwork, allowing dwarves to shape magical effects without invoking unstable arcane forces directly.

Magirite as Currency in Zaralem

In the mage-ruled Emirate of Zaralem, Magirite serves not only as a material of power, but as the foundation of the economy itself. Refined Magirite is the primary currency, reinforcing the emirate’s belief that magical authority and civic order are inseparable.

Currency-grade Magirite is issued in standardized forms:

  • Shards — small fragments used for everyday trade
  • Chips — larger pieces worth ten shards
  • Prisms — sealed ingots valued at one hundred shards, reserved for major contracts and institutional use

While metal coinage is legally accepted, it is uncommon in daily use. Prices throughout Zaralem are almost always listed in shard values, and most citizens carry Magirite as a matter of course.

Oversight and Regulation

All refinement, cutting, and issuance of Magirite currency is strictly regulated by institutions operating under the authority of the Enlightened Council. Unauthorized minting, experimental shaping, or private alteration of currency-grade Magirite is forbidden, as even small structural deviations can cause dangerous magical instability.

Through this control, Magirite becomes more than a resource—it is a constant, tangible symbol of power, responsibility, and the forces that shape the world of Enderlin.

Magirite is a rare crimson crystal that amplifies and stabilizes magical energy. In raw form, it is volatile and dangerous, but when refined, it becomes remarkably stable and long-lasting.

The largest known deposits lie beneath the Dwarven hold of Baraz-Dûm, whose mining clans tightly control its extraction. Dwarven runesmiths use Magirite to channel magic through carved runes rather than spellcasting, a practice they consider safer and more honorable.

Unauthorized refinement or alteration of Magirite is strictly forbidden, as even minor flaws can cause dangerous magical instability.
