Jyo
A massive, nightmarish creature of the desert, these beings are rarely encountered in the vast expanse of the central dunes. As nocturnal predators, they emerge under the cover of darkness, often ambushing unsuspecting caravanners. While their intentions can be unpredictable, they are known to occasionally seek companionship and stories of the outside world—but just as often, they seek a quick and easy meal.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Jyo are imposing, crescent-shaped creatures with four distinct limbs—two slender arms and a pair of large wings that extend their full height. Their arms end in small, three-clawed hands, delicate yet functional. Their bodies are encased in a resilient chitinous exoskeleton, providing robust protection against the searing desert sun and abrasive, blowing sands. The Jyo's head is pyramidal in shape, featuring three diagonal slits that serve as visual receptors in place of conventional eyes. Along the front face of their head runs a vertical mouth, spanning a meter in length but only 5 centimeters wide when closed. This aperture is guarded by two razor-sharp mandibles, adept at slicing food into manageable portions.
Biological Traits
Chitin Armor: The Jyo are covered in protective chitin plating. This is equivalent to the protection of Chitin Armor and gives them a natural +8 DR to 2-19 on the limb chart. However, due to their bulky carapace they triple the ADP of any extra armor worn and requires it to be speciality crafted. This natural armor counts as armor in any effect that requires armor, but does not prevent the casting of spells or any other ability. This armor cannot be removed by spells or abilities that remove armor.
Cocoon Stasis: As a full-round action, the Jyo can wrap it wings around itself and enter a trance-like state. During this state, the Jyo does not require food, water or air. Over the next two minutes, the Jyo gains DR 10 every round as it hardens. The Jyo cannot perform any other action until it exits the cocoon.
Desert Dweller: A native to the harsh desert, this race is adapted to the difficult conditions. They have +5 Resistance(Fire) and are immune to the effects of hot weather.
Permenant Flight: Jyo are always engaged in flying. As a partial action, they can take off or land to a resting position. After taking off, the Jyo gains a fly speed equal to double their standard movement. In addition, Jyo can use their wings to glide, negating damage from a fall from any height and allowing 6 meters of forward travel for every 2 meters of descent. This type of flying never requires concentration and is treated in all cases that would relate to walking or running.
Growth Rate & Stages
The Jyo reproduces asexually every 10 years. It lays one egg in the sand where it lays dormant for an additional 5 years before hatching into a larval stage that resembles a Sandiss Worm. This larvae grows rapidly and emerges as an adult within the year.

Thermalscale Vision: Focusing on the infrared side of the light spectrum. It allows for vision based on heat sources. Thermalscale is the closest to darkvision one can get without magical assistance. Visual arc 120 degrees.

If the target is not trying to hide you must roll a Challenging Success, if the target is attempting to hide you must roll 3 more successes than they do on thier hide or move silently check.
