Arantris

These large aquatic predators are every sailors worst fears come into reality. The Arantris is a fearsome apex predator of the sea. Found almost exclusively in deeper waters, it patrols the open seas. The Arantris is the deadly fear and horror story told by sailors. Non-fatal shipwrecks often turn fatal once an Arantris catches the scent. Luckily for them, the Arantris is an uncommon sight, but when it does appear, it strikes fear into even the most steadfast person.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Arantris has six eyes, two large black eyes positioned on each side of its head. Above its huge gaping maw on it has two small black eyes. Its toothy maw contains millions of razor-sharp jagged teeth used to tear meat to shreds in order to swallow. It has several rows of these teeth and will shift them forward after breaking or losing previous ones. Along its gigantic body is six sets of guiding fins. Two small sets and one large set in the middle. These are used to turn and rapidly rotate on its axis. At the end of its tail is a large vertical fin that is usually twice the height of the Arantis. This fin aids the tail in propelling the creature, easily reaching speeds of 60km/hr.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Arantris reproduce sexually, and uncommon for aquatic life, give birth to live young after a three year gestation period. These young are born smaller, but fully functioning

Ecology and Habitats

Found exclusively in the deeper waters. The Arantris lives in the open ocean, rarely entering reefs, shipwrecks and other crowded areas.

The Arantris is a carnivore. It will eat almost anything that swims into its path.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Its two sets of main eyes are used for general sight, but cannot see in front of it well, as they are positioned on the sides. The small frontal eyes are used to detect movement in dark conditions, as at night when the ocean can be pitch dark. As well they are used to detect movement and signal to turn to observe forward facing activity more clearly. In addition to its unique eyesight, the Arantris also has an excellent sense of smell and touch. It can feel vibrates several hundred meters away in the water. The Arantris has a special sixth sense allowing it to detect the electromagnetic field generated by all living creatures. These senses allow the Arantris to hunt its foes with impeccable precision.
