Dead Bearer
Dead Bearers are a position held by some Priests within The Eight Heralds religion.
It is considered a highly respected role due to its dealings with those that has passed away. However most that take this position have been in the Priesthood for a number of years & have felt a calling to take this position.
When an individual dies the body is taken to a church (each church has a specially build morgue). There they are met by a Dead Bearer who will take 'possession' of the body & begin the process of preparing it for its final rest.
Qualifications
Must be part of The Eight Heralds Priesthood.
Appointment
No rank or minimum length of service in the Priesthood is required as this is a chosen position.
Duties
- Receiving those that have recently departed which are delivered to the church.
- Wrapping a body in a silken blanket embroidered with the holy symbol of the individuals chosen Herald.
- Lighting a candle & setting an empty wine bottle with each body.
- Overseeing the bodies at rest at the church.
- Working with the departed grieving friends/family.
- Upon the 6th day of a bodies rest, they extinguished a bodies candle by placing the empty bottle over it. Then take the body the crematorium pit.
Accoutrements & Equipment
Dead Bearers generally wear a broach depicting a wine bottle with a flame in it on their upper right chest, this designates their position as a Dead Bearer.
