Founding of Liridon
Long ago, during a time when the lands that now form the Empire of Noreia were divided and isolated, the coastal region that would become Storm Haven was a wild and untamed land. The Giant's Belt mountains loomed to the south, their peaks shrouded in mist, while the tempestuous seas of the Serpent's Wake lashed against the rugged coastline. It was a land of storms and mystery, feared by many but enticing to those with the vision and courage to tame it.
Amidst these challenges, a visionary leader emerged—Banto Galewind, the ancestor of the current ruling family. Banto was a seasoned sailor and a formidable warrior, known for his unyielding spirit and strategic mind. He saw the potential in the storm-battered shores and believed that a great city could rise there, one that would harness the power of the sea and the strength of the mountains.
The legend states that Banto had a prophetic dream one night while seeking shelter in a cave during a fierce storm. In his dream, he was visited by Kord, the god of strength and storms, who appeared amidst thunder and lightning. Kord spoke to Banto, revealing a vision of a magnificent city, with towering ships and bustling markets, standing proudly by the sea. Kord instructed Banto to build a great ark-like ship, the first of its kind on the continent, which would withstand the fiercest storms and navigate the wildest seas. The vision was so vivid and compelling that Banto awoke with a sense of divine purpose, convinced that it was his destiny to bring this vision to life.
Gathering a group of loyal followers, Banto set out to find the perfect location for his city. After weeks of exploration, they came upon a river flowing from the Giant's Belt into the sea, flanked by timber-rich forests and rocky karsts. Recognizing the strategic and economic potential of this site, Banto declared it the future heart of their new settlement.
Inspired by Kord's vision, Banto and his followers began the monumental task of building the first sea-faring boat on the continent. The early years were harsh, with constant storms and treacherous seas testing their resolve. However, Banto's leadership and the unwavering determination of his people saw them through. They constructed sturdy timber-style buildings designed to withstand the elements and began building ships using innovative techniques that would eventually give Storm Haven its maritime supremacy. The first great ship they built, named "Kord's Ark," became a symbol of their resilience and ingenuity. Liridon, named for the song of the waves that lulled Banto to sleep on that fateful night, became a beacon of hope and opportunity.
After Liridon had finally been finished and people began expanding the city, Banto was visited by Kord once again. This time, however, it was not in a dream. Kord appeared to Banto on the deck of Kord's Ark. He came as a lightning bolt and challenged Banto to a fight. Banto held his own and withstood the onslaught of Kord. Ending in a draw Kord was unable to hide how he was impressed. "Well done child, you have pleased me with your devotion. Lead these people into the depths of this world and I shall bless your generations to come. Seek what there is to offer and never settle for what you have here. "
Over the centuries, Liridon flourished under the guidance of the Galewind family, evolving into the bustling capital of Storm Haven. The city's rich history, marked by perseverance, innovation, and a deep connection to the sea and the blessings of Kord, continues to shape its identity and inspire its people to this day. The recent unification of Noreia under Emperor Gideon the Gallant, 26 years ago, has only further solidified Liridon's importance as a central hub of maritime trade and naval power within the empire.
