Princess Mhigo Ala

Currently sixth in line for the throne of Duras, Princess Mhigo Ala is the single most powerful sorceress alive on Emeriss. While there may be magi within the alabaster spires of the Vennican Dominion and wizards among the great, marbled halls of Ensign who can match her spell for spell they are no more than a handful and they certainly do not engage themselves in such passing games as the pursuit of adventure.   Despite all this power, Mhigo has no interest at all in taking the imperial crown - a fact she makes plain to anyone and everyone who might dare to broach the conversation with her. Instead, she chooses to live and travel among her Retinue, a collection of wandering adventurers nearly five hundred strong. The tales of Mhigo's adventures are legendary and her name is known even among the children of far off Ruelle who recount the story of the princess' encounter with the dragon Ixlthstrasz, her quest to defeat the demon lord Arvael, and her discovery of the Golden Lilly among the ruins of ancient Orchin.   For her part, Mhigo's favorite stories are the time when, as a child, she discovered an egg and from it hatched her sister, Hessia. Or the time the third company of her retinue all forewent their share of the spoils after defeating a warlord so that the money could be used to rebuild a town the villain had destroyed. Or perhaps the time she snuck into the city of Ashover disguised as a commoner and only one daring little child could see through her deception but eagerly agreed to keep her secret.

The Retinue

Born to royal blood, Princess Mhigo was afforded the rare privilege of attending Ruelle's famed Fairchild University where she learned the art of adventure alongside her oldest companion the longtooth shifter Roatan Hassan. Taking eagerly to the material, she excelled at every aspect of her education among the Ruellans but developed a particular fondness for classes on adventuring logistics and large scale tactics, planting the seed of what would one day become her legendary Retinue.   It was here, among the common people of Ruelle that the princess gathered her first party - Lee'ok the Ranger, Amistice the Paladin, Wren the Priestess, Devotan the Swashbuckler, and Rebecca the Bard. Their early successes quickly expanded the group beyond what could possibly have been taken on a single adventure and it was Roatan who first suggested that the larger group be divided into smaller teams all still fighting under the same banner and for the same goals but each under the command of a different founding member.   By the time the Princess returned to her home in Duras she did so at the head of an adventuring troupe more than thirty strong.   Without a place like Fairchild University for them to train, sword swingers and spell slingers eager to prove their mettle under the pennant of Mhigo Ala joined in with every victory and in short order what had been an impressive troupe blossomed into a veritable army.   The Retinue as it stands today is barely recognizable as the coterie of friends it began as but if one looks closely enough they can still find the signs there, among the close bonds of camaraderie and mutual respect for the princess who always leads her people from the front lines.
