Wonanra (whoa-nahn-ruh)
Originally created by the archfey of Sylthereth to explore the depths of Tudulion and Atithis, Wonanra (sea-children in elvish) have grown to be staples of coastal and aquatic communities across Yophas. As comfortable -- or more so -- in water as they are on land, Wonanra are perhaps the most explorative and happy-go-lucky of all elves. Aptly called sea elves by non-elves, Wonanra are fully amphibious and have built some of the most advanced aquatic societies on Emaxus.
Land and Sea
Wonanra are fully amphibious, capable of living in the water or on land for their entire lives; however, they tend to prefer the open sea or coastal reefs to the trappings of land-based society. While Wonanra are by no means a simple people, they often find the bureaucracy of mortal civilizations on land to be overwhelming at best or infuriating at worst. Wonanra feel much more at home in the freedom of the water. Their societies are egalitarian, scientific, and explorative. One of the highest callings a Wonanra can pursue is the chartering of deep-sea currents and planar rifts to Tudulion or Atithis, or vice versa.Fey Designs
Wonanra were born when the archfey of Sylthereth took an interest in the depths of Tudulion and Atithis and wanted to have a race of near-slaves who could better explore the Planar Oceans. At first, Wonanra existed solely to explore -- living and dying at the behest of the archfey, ever-pushing the bounds of known deep-sea exploration. But, over the millennia, Wonanra have become a truly sovereign people. Though many still work with the Syltherethian fey, they do it of their own volition and for hefty hazard pay. Because of this history, most Wonanra are ingrained by their family to have a distrust of authority and to chafe under tyranny -- whether it is true tyranny or not.Sea-Children
Wonanra were created to have a level of camouflage in the depths: their skin colors range from deep blue to sea foam green, and their hair follows the same color spectrum, plus the occasional jet black. Their eyes tend to be sclera-less, instead being pools of pure copper, blue, or green. Wonanra have gills along the sides of their necks, and can have other aquatic adaptations depending on how deep-sea their home community is. Anything from slight webbing on the fingers to ears resembling pectoral fins can be found on truly aquatic Wonanra.Wonanra Names and Culture
Wonanra are a free-spirited and scattered people. It is rare for even a village-worth of Wonanra to live together -- though it does happen -- so Wonanra often mold to the culture of whatever coastal community they were raised within. As such, Wonanra can use any naming convention found in the Cultures/Ethnicities culture, though you would be hard-pressed to find one in a non-coastal culture like Camaerithian or Drakkinan. Wonanra families will sometimes use their own naming conventions, which can date back to when Wonanra first got their freedom in the Age of Rebirth. Wonanra do not use family names, typically. Below are some examples of those. Male Names: Agandaur, Ailuin, Druindar, Eldar, Eroan, Kellam, Ninthalor, Ualair, Rothilion, Selanar, Tasar Female Names: Alloralla, Almedha, Arasne, Ashryn, Eliyen, Ilythyrra, Leilatha, Syndra, Tsarra, VianolaCreating Your Character
