The Chosen Organization in Emaxus | World Anvil
Emaxus is currently undergoing a large entry into a new Age (and a large revision of the current Age). Consider this an active construction zone: things are moving around, getting changed, and the world's being reorganized. Apologies for the inconvenience!

The Chosen

Huge thanks to Blizzard for the cover art, and Kelvin Tan for the awesome visual design!
In the final years of the 9th century AT (898, to be exact), something occurred that had not happened since the Reckoning: angels descended to Emaxus. On 8/7/898 AT, five celestial warriors came down from the heavens unto Theussau, claiming to have been sent by the Silver Dawn and the Children of Yamma to aid the people of the Protectorate in their struggle. This event sent shockwaves through every society in Emaxus, especially those of scholarly, religious, or military background, for the arrival of these five godforged, "the Chosen," as they called themselves, had ramifications far beyond a simple arrival.   Indeed, many intellectuals and religious scholars feared the implications of the arrival of the Chosen: they either were angels sent by the Silver Dawn, which meant there was surviving members of Yamma's armies, or they were false prophets. There was no way to study the former theory, and no way to test the latter. Military leaders the world over questioned what this meant for the future of warfare: would this be the dawn of a new age of aggressive, "righteous" expansion by the Protectorate? Would the hopes of the Camaerithian Concord to wipe out Orakgra come true as swiftly as death upon his pale horse? Even many people within the Protectorate leadership questioned and even feared this development behind closed doors. Only General Andris of the Aegis Division truly welcomed the arrival of the Chosen, as she claimed it was she who had petitioned the Children of Yamma for their divine aid in the Protectorate's righteous quests.   On Shenarah 28, Tádariel, 899 AT, Caphriel and Zuriel were slain in Orakgran territory by the heroes known as the Five of Swords. Both Chosen had been sent there to capture a group of Concord members who had committed treason by meeting Orakgran ambassadors in Orakgran territory to discuss preliminary terms of peace. Both Chosen were slain by the Five of Swords, the Heroes of Loria, who had gone with the Concord diplomats to defend them. Before their death, Zuriel called out to Empyrean, the Broken Solar, to empower them, and they became a dark, aberrant angel with much greater power. Luckily, the Five of Swords still managed to best them; but what does this imply about the Chosen's origins?

Caphriel, Paragon of Courage, ready for battle. The Chosen largely bear the same arms and armors.

Goals

The Chosen have proclaimed their mission to the world: "to aid the Theussaun Protectorate in their divine quests." What that means, and what exactly that entails, is anyone's guess.

Relationships

The Chosen are "sworn" to the Theussaun Protectorate; however, they are (at least they claim to be) divine warriors from the Silver Dawn, and so whether or not they are truly bound to the Protectorate is widely up for debate. Even factions within the Protectorate have been caught off guard by the Chosen. Indeed, it would appear that the only true, unequivocal ally of the Chosen is the Aegis Division and their leader, General Andris. While the King is hesitant to allow the Chosen in the war against Orakgra, General Andris (and the generals of Camaerith) are staunch allies of the idea.

Figures of Interest

The Chosen are composed of five angels, detailed below in order of strength and heirarchy.

Ramiel, the Dawn's Hand

Lawful good, male solar   The "leader" of the Chosen, Ramiel is the solar who claims to be one of the right hands of the Silver Dawn. He was sent by the Children of Yamma to aid mortals after their centuries of struggles on their lonesome. He is predominantly calm, and fiercely loyal to the Protectorate and protecting the mortals of Emaxus, especially from themselves. He is most interested in ensuring the Chosen are deployed intelligently and strategically to procure the most benefit. He also enjoys taking the field himself, though there are rarely tasks that require his strength.   He is a fair-skinned, fifteen-foot tall humanoid man, with a thick brown beard and goatee and short brown hair. His eyes are pure silver, which shine like a dawn over the horizon. His armor is similar to the other Chosen, though it is silver and blue with cloth of gold, and he bears an elegant and immaculately designed greatsword in battle. His wings are pure white, thick feathers, all flecked with silver near the tips.

Zuriel, Paragon of Valor

Lawful good, non-binary planetar   Right-hand of Ramiel, Zuriel is like Ramiel's little brother in both demeanor and strength. They are, at times, brash and wrathful, and much prefer taking to the field to smite all foes of the Silver Dawn and the Protectorate. Zuriel is the most outspoken ally of General Andris's push to get the Chosen on the field against Orakgra.   Zuriel is a powerfully built humanoid of some twelve feet, with light brown undertones to their skin. They are often the least armored of the Chosen, as Zuriel believes it "hinders their movement;" however, they do still bear the typical greaves and shoulderpads of the Chosen, only they forgo the breastplate for long, white cloth. In battle, they bear a simple, but unbreakable greatsword. Their wings are composed of pure white feathers that radiate a faint golden aura.   Zuriel was slain on Shenarah 28, Tádariel, 899 AT. They and Caphriel were sent to capture a group of treasonous diplomats who were meeting with Orakgran ambassadors in Orakgran territory to discuss the terms of a preliminary peace. Both angels were slain. Before their death, Zuriel called out to Empyrean, the Broken Solar, to empower them in a desperate last bid for survival.

Domiel, Paragon of Wisdom

Lawful good, genderfluid planetar   The quietest of the Chosen, Domiel is a resolute warden of knowledge and celestial power. He seeks to learn the most of Emaxus and the people who inhabit it, despite having observed them from beyond the Divine Gate for centuries. He seeks to understand mortals and their relationships and interactions, their hopes and dreams, and the things that keep them up at night. He cares not of whether or not the Chosen take up arms for the Protectorate, as he seeks to aid things on the domestic front.   He is often times clad in simple, white robes underneath his golden celestial armor, standing twelve feet tall. His skin color and facial features are unknown, as his armor covers most of his body and a deep, white hood covers his face in a near impossible shadow. He wields a silver longbow when he must fight, and his wings are made of silver feathers, which shine like moonlight.

Caphriel, Paragon of Courage

Lawful good, female planetar   A furious warrior and the embodiment of the Silver Dawn's martial might, Caphriel is the strongest fighter of the Paragons within the Chosen. She seeks to purge the shadows and dark corners of Emaxus of the evil that lies in wait, but waits for mortals to accept the existence of the Chosen to head global. She especially has her eyes on Drumis, and the terrible remnants of the Reckoning that lie above and below it.   Caphriel embodies the physical prowess of the Chosen, with elegant and heavy armor covering her twelve foot tall figure from head to toe. Her armor is the most intricate of the Chosen, though not superfluously so. Outside of battle, she does not bear her crowned helmet, revealing her hazel skin and white, long hair. Her eyes are pools of blue, as beautiful as the Lake of Eternity. She wields a double-headed spear in battle, and her wings are of golden, faintly feathered, light.   Caphriel was slain on Shenarah 28, Tádariel, 899 AT. She and Zuriel were sent to capture a group of treasonous diplomats who were meeting with Orakgran ambassadors in Orakgran territory to discuss the terms of a preliminary peace. Both angels were slain.

Hadariel, Paragon of Loyalty

Lawful good, male planetar   Resolute in his will and indomitable in his form, Hadariel is the left-hand of Ramiel. Whereas Zuriel is interested in striking out at the enemies of the Chosen, Hadariel is interested in ensuring no new foes arise in the meantime. As such, he seeks to work towards mending the woes within the Protectorate, and resolving the many issues that plague the diverse communities of the region, and indeed, the world. He is not totally averse to battle, and can more than hold his own should it come to that, but he does strive to remediate conflict by other means before resorting to death blows.   Hadariel is of dark skin and bald head, and the rest of his form is covered in the gold and blue plate of the Chosen. He similarly has no eyebrows, but does have strong brows over the contemplative, emerald pools of light that constitute his eyes. Should he have to fight, Hadariel wields two silver chain-whips which sear with divine light. His wings are of pristine, white feathers which glow with a faint blue light.
