Envalanath, Mother of Blood Myth in Emaxus | World Anvil
Emaxus is currently undergoing a large entry into a new Age (and a large revision of the current Age). Consider this an active construction zone: things are moving around, getting changed, and the world's being reorganized. Apologies for the inconvenience!

Envalanath, Mother of Blood

"I was never imprisoned in Accorion because Yamma never found me. A predator knows when it is outclassed, and it waits for its superiors to die out before coming to roost again."

Thanks to Daniela Ivanova for the amazing cover art!
Forgotten by all but the most ancient vampires and the most devoted cults, Envalanath is the original vampire, and the most powerful---and mysterious---by far. No one knows her origin, and she never deigns to share it. Legends say that she spent much of the Age of Rebirth in hiding, though there were a handful of exceptionally powerful vampires (her children, if the myths can be trusted) who knew of her countless hideouts and how to find her.   In the wake of the gods' deaths, she has largely kept to herself regardless. She has little interest in the affairs of mortals, save for their blood. She sometimes sways the events of Emaxus in the form of creating new dhampir champions or warlocks/witches bound to her, but this is only for entertainment. Envalanath is secure in her position, and she knows to overstretch risks only collapse with little in the way of benefits.   As such, Envalanath is known only in whispers. Heralded as the Mother of Blood, some vampires (who know her only by the faintest calling in the backs of their heads) take it upon themselves to "enact her will"---a will they conceive all their own. False cults sprout up around the Mother, praising her as a Blood Mother and a Deathbringer, coming to free all people from their mortal coils.   In reality, Envalanath watches eternity pass by in one of her countless hideouts and strongholds, rarely interacting with creatures not bound to her, unless it is to feed upon them. Perhaps she is waiting for something. Perhaps there will come a day when she will arise, all fury and blood. If there is potential for that, she has shown no such interest in it.

Appearance

Envalanath appears as a human woman in her mid to late thirties. Everything about her may change---skin color, eye color, physical appearance---but her hair color is always the same: stark white. She typically wears extremely fine clothing, like lace dresses or elegant robes. Most importantly, she always wears a crystalline-red amulet around her neck.

The Bloodless, Children of the Mother

Forming a sect of three, the Bloodless are Envalanath's children; they are, as the legends go, the vampires she created at the dawn of the Age of Rebirth. These uber-powerful ancient vampires are the progenitors of all other vampires, and while they may not rampage and slaughter as some of their distant kin do, the Bloodless are not their Mother. They do partake in the world, and their ire earned more than one of them a place in Accorion before its shattering.

The Bloodless

  • Engainaral, Love of the Mother. Known in whispers across Yophas as "the man in black," Engainaral roams the multiverse, engaging in promiscuity and lustful seduction in every community he stays in. His bloodline is one of consent and passion, as he considers himself Envalanath's love given form---both in physical and emotional affection.
  • Entherinith, Knowledge of the Mother. Entherinith is the most cloistered of the Bloodless, rivalling even Envalanath herself. Entherinith keeps countless libraries and sanctuaries across Yophas, and is sometimes sought out by mages and scholars for forbidden knowledge. Legends say that Entherinith created the rituals of lichdom, and that she spent millennia in Accorion because of it.
  • Envorinan, Rage of the Mother. Relatively, Envorinan has created the majority of the vampiric bloodlines that exist today. He is the wrath of a predator and the disdain of an immortal rolled into one demigod form. Envorinan was the first of the Bloodless to be imprisoned in Accorion because he actively hunted mortals and created new vampires, wiping entire communities off the map in single nights. He came to be known as Calamity in some legends, and is believed to be the vampire Ellas Elendiir found and was converted by.

Misbegotten Children

Most vampires are "children" of Envalanath in the same way that a far-removed grandchild is related to their distant ancestor. These vampires---which is to say almost all of them---are not true representations of Envalanath and her will. The reputation that these entities have accrued their kind---while not unearned---is not the reputation Envalanath would wish.    As such, save for her direct offspring (the true ancient vampires, known as the Bloodless), Envalanath has no connections with the diluted, misbegotten bloodlines of modern vampires. They are peasantry to her divinity, in her eyes.

Mortal Champions of Envalanath

Rare are those who Envalanath personally takes an interest in, and even rarer are the non-vampires who Envalanath empowers. When she does deign to champion a mortal, she will usually make them into a dhampir, if nothing else.   Envalanath is known to occasionally---as in once every century or two---roam the mortal lands of Emaxus and greater Yophas. During these voyages, which can last for a year or more, she walks the lands as a mortal woman would. She may take a liking to a mortal during this time, and perhaps even take them to bed. When this bond is formed (though it need not always be sexual), her favored one leaves changed and connected to Envalanath.   Lucky for the bound one, Envalanath is not a harsh master. In fact, she often does this as a way to keep herself entertained when she goes back to her sanctums. She can observe the adventures, trials, and tribulations of her bound partner and egg them on, perhaps creating a hero (or villain) who changes the fate of a nation or continent, and sometimes even the world.
