Drakkinid Ethnicity in Emaxus | World Anvil
Emaxus is currently undergoing a large entry into a new Age (and a large revision of the current Age). Consider this an active construction zone: things are moving around, getting changed, and the world's being reorganized. Apologies for the inconvenience!

Drakkinid

Thanks to Linfeng Dai from ArtStation for the amazing cover art!
The Draconic Wastes are a scar upon the land, dominating northwestern Iotura and serving as home to countless horrors and monstrosities left from the Reckoning -- or that have found their way to the wastes in the centuries since. There is, however, one bastion of civilization amid the ruin: Drakkina. City of Dragons and one of the four Shelter Cities, Drakkina has a potent history and vibrant culture marked by its utilitarian focus on survival juxtaposed against a religious devotion and appreciation for the arts.   Having been founded by Lythaelos' followers in the last years of the Reckoning, Drakkina is the single largest grouping of dragonborn in Emaxus. As such, most Drakkinans are dragonborn; however, they are not xenophobic and are actually quite welcoming, so plenty of other races have slowly made the arduous journey to this isolated city.

Naming Conventions

Drakkinid tend to use the standard dragonborn naming conventions, which can be found in their Race article. Those who are not dragonborn tend to use either their home/ancestral culture's naming conventions, or those of their race's.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Draconic is the typical language used in Drakkina, but almost all Drakkinid know Common as well, and many know tertiary or quaternary languages still.

Culture and cultural heritage

The Drakkinid owe their history to the army of dragonborn that followed Lythaelos in their campaign against Xael during the Reckoning. It was the survivors of this army that were tasked by the Dragon of Fate to watch over the Witherer's Throne. They founded Drakkina and weathered out the final days of the Reckoning in its shadow.   As such, Lythaelos is the primarily worshipped god within Drakkinid culture, and dragons are given high respect.

Art & Architecture

Drakkinid architecture tends to be rather utilitarian; however, they do have a great appreciation for the arts. Marble statues and vivid paintings of the gods, the environs of Emaxus, and dragons are highly valued in Drakkinid culture.

Common Myths and Legends

The Drakkinid believe they are Lythaelos' chosen children, and they take the final duty they were given very seriously. They regularly send expeditions into the Witherer's Throne and constantly fight against the corruption that surrounds them.
