Riftsilver Material in Emala | World Anvil

Riftsilver

Riftsilver is an alloy of various metals and riftstone and is a two-world material. It concentrates the effects of the riftstone, making it completely solid to incorporeal creatures rather than dangerous but semi-permeable. This metal is used to make weapons for fighting monsters and other incorporeal beings.

Despite its name, silver is not a component of riftsilver, it is mostly comprised of iron and nickel. The name comes from the bright white color of the alloy. Riftsilver is stronger than steel and could be used for many of the same things steel if it werent for riftsilvers toxicity. Riftsilver is not toxic in the same way mercury or most other metals are, rather it is toxic to the soul. Prolonged and consistant exposure to riftsilver drains MP. Over longer periods of time this constant drain can cause a person's pattern to become unstable and fray to some extent, leading to a host of unpredictable side effects.

Depending on the quality of the riftsilver and the amount of exposure, the MP draining effects can vary in strength. A sword could be easily handled without fear while armor would put the riftsilver in constant contact across a person's whole body.

Like all two-worlds materials, riftsilver is a poor material to weave upon, its inherent properties interfering with the magical energies of a weave. An object made of riftsilver recieves 2 less rune slots.
