Oliver Barnes Character in Eltheris | World Anvil

Oliver Barnes

Overview

Oliver is 80 years old, though he doesn't look a day past 30. Oliver was born into a poor family in Stougheller and was raised up to be a fisherman, like his father. He fished the canals frequently as a young man, but felt empty and frustrated with his lot in life. Oliver would do anything to raise his station. One morning Oliver was fishing a secluded canal, when suddenly a tree sprouted from a building behind him. Within the tree was a hollow that contained the head of a grizzly bear. It questioned if Oliver would accept "his power". Oliver immediately agreed to, and was bestowed a branch of that tree. Some time later in his adventures that branch formed a wooden glaive, a symbol of his pact.   As Oliver became an adventurer of some note, he discovered more about his mystery Patron. Oberon, The Lord of Beasts saw it fit to bestow power upon young Oliver. Eventually Oliver formed a group of adventurers. They made a name for themselves all over the ascendancy. Eventually, Oberon demanded Oliver do his will, and cut off certain gates to the Feywild. Oliver politely declined. When his group of companions eventually came into confrontation with a beholder, they were overwhelmed. Oliver tried to save his companions, but Oberon cut off his power. Oliver watched his friends die, and then blacked out. He awoke within a forest, alone. To this day Oliver has never taken new companions, and works tirelessly when his patron calls upon him. Oliver has learned to obey.
