Suspend Life

Suspend Life

3-level Necromancy

Casting Time 1 action
Range Touch
Duration 8 hours
Components V, S, F

You touch a willing creature and put it into a cataleptic state that is indistinguishable from death.   For the spell's duration the target doesn't age or decompose, but otherwise appears dead to all outward inspection and to spells used to determine the target's status. The target is blinded and incapacitated, and its speed drops to 0. The target has resistance to all damage except psychic damage. Any resurrection spells on the target fail and appears to the caster as though the target's soul is unwilling. If the target is diseased or poisoned when you cast the spell, or becomes diseased or poisoned while under the spell's effect, the disease and poison have no effect until the spell ends.   The spell ends early if you use an action to touch the target and dismiss the spell. Alternatively, when casting the spell, you can opt for the duration to end when a specific condition occurs. The triggering condition can be as general or as detailed as you like, though it must be based on visual or audible conditions that occur within 30 feet of the target. For example, the spell could end when the target is exposed to direct sunlight, splashed with water, or when a specific command phrase is said within 30 feet of the target.

At higher levels:

  • At 4th Level: The duration becomes 24 hours.
  • At 5th Level: The duration becomes 1 week.
  • At 6th Level: The duration becomes 1 month.
  • At 7th Level: The duration becomes 1 year.
  • At 8th Level: The spell lasts until dismissed.
