Suggestion

Suggestion

2-level Enchantment

Casting Time 1 action
Range 30 feet
Duration Concentration, up to 8 hours
Components V, F

You suggest a course of action to the target (limited to a sentence or two), which must be phrased in such a way as to seem like a logical course of action to the target and can't be self-destructive or obviously against the target's self-interest. Creatures that can't be charmed are immune to this effect. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw.

  • Major Success: The target is unaffected and knows you tried to charm it.
  • Success: The target is unaffected and thinks you were just speaking to them emphatically, not casting a spell on them.
  • Failure: The target immediately follows your suggestion. The spell has a duration of 10 minutes, or until the target has completed the suggestion or the suggestion becomes self-destructive or has other obvious negative effects.
  • Major Failure: As failure, but the duration is up to 8 hours.
Even if the target is unaware that a spell was cast on them, other creatures witnessing the interaction could discern from the other components that a spell was used. The target can immediately repeat the saving throw if another creature friendly to them uses their action to convince them that something is amiss.   You can also specify conditions that will trigger a special activity during the duration. For example, you might suggest that a knight give her warhorse to the first beggar she meets as an act of charity. If the condition isn't met before the spell expires, the activity isn't preformed. Immediately after the condition is met however, the target might reevaluate the course of action, for example, the knight may immediately retrieve her horse.   If you or any of your companions damage the target, the spell ends.
