Royal Council

The royal council is a group of advisers who aid the King of Arandal. The king serves as the head of the council and takes note of its recommendations.

History

The original Royal Council consisted of five members, representatives of the Paramount Noble Houses in Arandal. During this time, the council members held no specific powers of their own and existed solely in an advisory capacity to the King.   Following the Second Arandal War of Succession, the nobility came to the conclusion that the powers of the King would need better checks and balances. The council was expanded to ten members, of which the king is one. The king also ceased to be above the law and was now governed by the rules dictated in the Royal Charter of 322. The paramount houses were no longer guaranteed membership, though they still retained all the power and resources associated with their name, and therefor are most likely to occupy one of the lordly positions on the council. Two council positions are now also reserved for commoners.
