Rarity describes how frequently a particular item might be encountered in the world. Rarity also provides a reasonable measure of the item's power, with higher rarity items typically being more powerful.
Common
Mundane and everyday items that include those things that communities depend on for survival. These items can be found almost anywhere people live.
Uncommon
Items that require special training to produce including more intricate mundane items and entry-level magic items. A handful of uncommon items might be found in a village or hamlet, but will be plentiful in communities with populations of 1000 or more.
Rare
Rare items require skilled craftsmanship or expensive materials, often both. A small number of rare items might be found in hands of influential people in a small town. These kinds of items will be more prevalent in large towns or small cities with populations of 5000 or more.
Epic
Epic items are powerful items that are nearly always magical. Only the most gifted and magically inclined artisans can craft epic items, as such these kinds of items cannot be easily purchased and will likely be obtained during dangerous exploits and adventures.
Legendary
Rare items require skilled craftsmanship or expensive materials, often both. A small number of rare items might be found in hands of influential people in a small town. These kinds of items will be more prevalent in large towns or small cities with populations of 20,000 or more.
Mythic
Mythic items are always unique, and are usually well-preserved antiquities that are highly sought after. Wars are fought for, and won by them. The secrets of creating most mythic items arose centuries ago and were then gradually lost as a result of wars, cataclysms, and mishaps.
