Counterspell

3-level Abjuration

Casting Time 1 reaction, which you take when you see a creature within 60 feet of you casting a spell
Range 60 feet
Duration Instantaneous
Components V, F

You attempt to interrupt a creature in the process of casting a spell that you have successfully identified.   You and the target creature make contested spellcasting ability checks. You receive a bonus to your ability check equal to the spell level you used to cast this spell. The target receives a bonus to their ability check equal to the level of the spell they are in the process of casting.   If you succeed, the creature's spell fails and has no effect.   You can cast this spell as part of the reaction you use to identify the spell which the target is in the process of casting. If you fail to identify the spell being cast then this spell and any mana used to cast it is still expended.

At higher levels: When you cast this spell at 4th level or higher, you gain a higher bonus to your contested spellcasting ability check.

Class(es): Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
