Banishment

Banishment

4-level Abjuration

Casting Time 1 action
Range 60 feet
Duration Concentration, up to 1 minute
Components V, S, F

You attempt to send one creature that you can see within range to another place of existence. The target must make on a Charisma saving throw.

  • Major Success: The target is unaffected.
  • Success: The target is dazed until the end of their next turn.
  • Failure: The target is banished. While banished, the target is magically transported to a harmless demiplane and is incapacitated while it remains there. The target makes a Charisma saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the spell on itself on a success.
  • Major Failure: As failure, but the Charisma saving throw is made with disadvantage.
When the spell ends on a target that has been banished, it reappears in the space it left or the nearest unoccupied space if that space is occupied.   If a Celestial, an Elemental, or a Fiend is banished by this spell and fails three of the spell's Charisma saving throws while banished, it doesn't return. It is instead transported to a random location on a plane associated with its Creature Type.

At higher levels: When you cast this spell at 5th level or higher, you can target one additional creature for each level above 4th.

Class(es): Cleric, Paladin, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
