Alturian
Descended from the survivors of the Fall of Alturia, the majority of these humans now make their home on the continent of Arandal. Alturians have a diverse range of appearances, with a medium build and height, and olive or dusky skin that tends to grow fairer the farther north they dwell. Their hair and eye color also varies widely, with dark hair and brown or blue eyes being the most common.
Culture and Society
Alturian culture features some variance across the different provinces of Arandal, but broadly emphasizes a strict adherence to the feudal roles of each social class, and loyalty to one's lord and monarch. Gender roles meanwhile are far less defined, with noble titles and lands being inherited through a system of absolute primogeniture, with little regard for gender. Education and book learning is emphasized for the nobility, but most peasantfolk simply follow in the professional footsteps of their parents, with little opportunity for social mobility. The arcane arts are heavily valued in Alturian society, and children displaying an aptitude for magic are often provided a unique opportunity to advance beyond the station of their birth through generous scholarships at arcane universities, with the promise of placement at a noble's court upon graduation.Names
Alturians normally have one given name, and a family name. Married couples often adopting the family name of whomever holds higher noble standing, affirming their children's rights to lands and titles. Commonfolk often don't have last names at all, but might adopt last names related to their profession such as: Tanner, Weaver, Miller, Smith, Potter etc.Male Names
