Staggore

The staggore is a large ungulate that was originally brought to Geminus Minor, but before long was exported & bred into the majority of the world as they provide a substantial amount of meat to both natural & sentient predators, making them an ideal staple to keep ecosystems self-sustainable. Generally preferring colder climates due to their thick fur, the humid deserts of Stalvenrakh are the one major area where they're entirely incompatible, requiring them to be kept in specially made climate controlled compounds where their numbers are carefully monitored & cultivated to feed the larger population.   Appearance   Standing around 2 metres tall & 4 metres in length, staggores have a large build with thick fur, weighing in as adults at an average of 550kg for females & 800kg for males. Their tails are roughly 15cm in length, the fur on them flaring out into a leaflike shape. Both male & female staggores grow antlers, though the standard pattern for the two are different. The male's antlers tend to be more jagged, pointing further forward, making them much more effective at piercing threats compared to the female's, which tend to curve to the side & upwards, making a cradle-like appearance that they have been known to carry their young in during their early development should the herd need to move.   Diet & Behaviour   Staggores are browsing herbivores, subsiding on a wide variety of plants & fruit in order to maintain their large body weight. They tend to roam in herds to reduce predation, with the younger males sometimes actively chasing those that dare to try, though they're usually too slow to effectively catch a predator alone, though the mere threat is often enough to make the predators think twice. When it comes to mating, staggores have an interesting approach to other ungulates, as where usually males would vie for the attention of a potential mate by locking antlers & wrestling other males, this is more dangerous for staggores given the nature of their antlers. As such, they tend to try instead to carve symbols into tree bark, demonstrating their control.
