For the earliest parts of recorded history, much of Cauron was covered by a large prairie known as Ilenhal. During the divine war it is taught that in desperation, the defeated deities tore open the earth to slow the prime deities from capturing Vol'tierheim. Surviving documents describe tales of hell come to Elsinya as the ground tore itself apart. Since the end of the divine war, the region has suffered permanent desertification.
