Koobqho Al'luun Building / Landmark in Elotia | World Anvil

Koobqho Al'luun (Coo-beh-ko Al-loo-wan)

Koobqho Al'luun was a large, cylindrical monument rising up out of the deserts of Leaait. Though clear records of such structures and objects within Vetra/Leaait are very rare, Koobqho Al'luun was discovered only after the disappearnace of Vetra and had been visited by scholars, explorers, and others trying to find the lost city and nation. Despite careful recordings of where the monument was, no one has reported a physical sighting of the monument since the Thunstrada returned to New Vetra and subsequently also disappeared.

Purpose / Function

The true purpose of Koobqho is unclear, at least to those who have visited it since the founding of New Vetra. Several (brief) studies of the monument led some in the Temple of Al'luun to speculate that it was used as some sort of viewing or communication device with the Godlings who formed the Godling Eyes and the Respites, though this is largely based on one eclipse lining up with the large hole at the top of the monument.   Some also claim that the Thunstrada made reference to the Koobqho during their travels around Elotia, specifically when they spoke of "a tree in a vast field, reaching for the sky, can bear Godlings, or give one the power of one".   The name Koobqho is an attempted pronounciation of the runic language carved into the monument's base, based on current understandings of protendren.

Architecture

The Koobqho was a four metre tall, thin monument rising out of a square base set below the sands. The diameter of the needle-like structure was approximately three quarters of a metre, though the top featured a nearly round cirlce that was angled slightly towards the sky. While no one is completely sure what material was used to buit to the koobqho, some have speculated that it was a wood so petrified that it became rock.   The structure, when first recorded, showed some sings of previously having been painted, though all such marks had been worn away by the time of the last recording.

Defenses

The koobqho is protected by strong magical runes which likely exist under the sand of the base, or are otherwise integrated into its creation. Given its placement in the middle of a desert, the koobqho is often the target of lightning strikes; however, lightning appears to split around the structure itself and many travellers to the koobqho had recorded finding fulgurites around the base.
