Endref

Talafati Endref is largely home to human populations, especially merchant classes and workers who focus on developing and building new settlements and homes. The people of Endref view their homes as their castles and those in Endref who were fortunate enough, or brave enough, or vicious enough, to wrestle control of some trade or trading vessels were often much wealthier than the rest of the population. The Faila, the richest person in Endref, was the defacto ruler of the nation, controlling everything through controlling a large navy that taxed other merchant vessels. Due to many of the merchants hiring mercenaries or guards of various kinds, the people of Endref were quite diverse, though this often resulted in slums, pograms, and other segregation based on culture and class. Up until 250 years ago, Endref was made of many separate merchant fiefdoms. Much of Endref's population prefer to keep those who were not from their land out as much as possible (in terms of settling/living). While some leeway was given for diplomacy or those particularly skilled at various trades, unskilled/uneducated people were often viewed as lesser and crimes committed against them were not addressed with nearly the same vigour or rigour by any local forces that enforced laws. In the case of Endref, most enforcement was by those hired by rich merchants, and so a certain level of “mixing” was tolerated, such that those who would not complain about poor working conditions could be procured.

The People of Endref

The people in Endref often have long, straight hair ranging wildly in colour. Many merchants, the rich, and those that want to display wealth dye their hair with materials that they've gained or bought. As a merchant nation, it is home to a mix of people with diverse wants and aims, but the Faila and other Merchants are largely renowned for their want of money and buildings and little else. There is a lot of tension in Endref these days, due to the rumours about Mesle, but Endref remains as open and welcoming as ever to those who have coin to spend, or who are willing to work.

Indigenous Peoples

The Kukul are also known as the Kepkulan, or "The Keepers". The Kukul have always kept records of their histories, whether orally, in writing, or in magic inscriptions. They lived in the southwest of Laerdt'nah, building villages out of granite and hardwood. Much is known of the Kukul, but only in Endref. Many Kukul storytellers know a strong magic that prevents outsiders from remembering their histories.
