Session 5 - Ruins of Keldyrion contd.

General Summary

After resting for the night and getting 8 hit points and our power points back, we head off down the corridor off the corridor to the South. The party order is Brovar, Sai Kyo, Tripp, Baka, Lilirie, Digby except at doors where Tripp goes up to be with Brovar. We are testing the floor with a 10-foot pole and in this manner, we approach a door to the South of the main room. Tripp checks for traps but none are detected so he tries to open the door but fails badly. The floor suddenly opens up under Baka and she falls 10 foot into a spear-lined pit and is badly hurt for 29 hits. The others throw down a rope which she ties around herself and they haul her up. Lilrie casts concussion mastery on her and manages to cure her for 8 hits so she is now on 12 hits so that Baka has enough energy to give Tripp a clout and tell him to get his act together. That clout must have worked because Tripp finds a secret door, checks it for traps finding none. Brovar opens it up into a small room with a door on the other side and he can hear scraping, shuffling sound as well as an occasional rattling sound beyond the door. Brovar opens the door and sees a host of skeletons. As they hear the door opening, they start to the round and Brovar goes right with Sai Kyo to the left and Digby in the middle.   Brovar is hit for one damage. The formerly unstoppable Digby, recently a target dummy for skeletons and zombies, recovers some of his form as he whacks a skeleton for a 33E crush critical, shattering its hit, it collapses to the ground and takes another 15 hits and is no minus 75. Sai Kyo hits for 16C, disarming the skeleton, knocking it back and down. Digby is hit for 4 damage, but shrugs it off. Brovar hits perfectly with his long sword, for 35E slash, giving it another 8 hits. He follows up with his mace, for a 14C crush, and another 3 hits, dropping the skeleton to the floor. Next round Sai Kyo wins the initiative and hits the skeleton for 9A, and another 5 hits, stopping it attacking this round. Brovar attacks his second skeleton missing with his long sword and hitting with his mace for 10 damage. Digby goes for the skeleton he downed last round, hitting it for 10 and finishing it off.
Brovar then gets the initiative and hits for 16D crush with his mace, for another 4 hits. Sai Kyo does 6A for another 4 hits, getting initiative next round. Digby takes on the bigger skeleton doing 14C with an extra 3 hits. While all this action is going on, we start to feel wearier than we normally would due to the fact that we are failing some resistance roles. This is not good. Sai Kyo has initiative next round but fumbles, luckily without adverse result. The big skeleton misses Digby. Brovar does a 25E slash with his long sword, chopping off one of its arms, downing it and getting a plus 10 for the next round. Digby is next hitting the big skeleton for a 27D crush, an extra 25 hits, taking a chunk of bone out of its body and getting a plus 10 for his next attack. Sai Kyo is then hit for a 16D slash, taking another 10 hits, stunning him for four rounds and he is taking 5 hits per round. That hurt and to make matters worse the feeling of weariness grows as we continue to fail resistance roles and it feels like the life is being drawn out of us.     Next round Sai Kyo takes another 5 hits, and is down to 32. Brovar attacks the big one doing 11 damage with his long sword but fumbles with his mace, losing two rounds. Digby is next hitting the big skeleton for a 16C crush, doing an extra 6 damage and it crumbles to the ground. Lilrie escapes being hit, but is unable to hit her skeleton. Some of us fail our resistance rolls again and feel even more drained and we learn later that our temporary constitution stats have been lowered. Next round Sai Kyo takes another 5 hits, taking him down to 27 remaining. Baka rushes in to give him first aid, successfully binding his wounds so that he is no longer taking hits each round. Although the first aid has worked, the bleeding has stopped, but he is not up to another fight. Digby lays his hands on Sai Kyo so that he can fight again. Brovar attacks with his long sword and finally finishes off the last skeleton.     We search the room and find a door to the South, in addition to the door to the North. We check North where the door opens into a corridor going North, with a branch off to the West. The door to the South heads down some stairs so we go back and check the door to the West. This has a large sarcophagus and two coffins. We take the flask and read the word on the bottom, “shëshëng”. We check for secret doors but don’t find anything. Next we go back to the main corridor and go North. We find a door and Tripp checks for traps and picks the lock easily. The door opens into an empty room, empty except for four levers, which are all in the same position. We search the room and Lilrie finds a door to the South and can hear a rattling sound behind it. The floor in her area seems to be fine. Brovar finds nothing. Sai Kyo finds nothing, but Baka thinks the floor beneath her sounds hollow, so she moves closer to the original door. And so we turn to the levers, a particular weakness of our resident thief, Tripp. Baka asks him how many levers he has to pull to be satisfied, but Tripp’s enraptured face is not the answer she was looking for. Tripp pulls the second lever and the whole central section of the room falls away leaving a 10 by 20 foot pit lined with spears. Tripp was standing on that area, but he reacts incredibly quickly to jump on the levers and is unharmed. Luckily the rest of us were all at the bottom of the room, so are also safe. A near miss. Undaunted at nearly killing all of us, and still entranced by the remaining levers, Tripp pulls lever number four and the door to the South opens to a room of skeletons. Thanks again Tripp.     Brovar and Lilrie are directly in front of the door and both start fighting at a penalty due to their proximity. Brovar lashes out with his long sword, hitting the first skeleton for a 28E slash, for another 3 damage. His mace follows up, but misses. The skeleton attacks Lilrie doing her 3 damage. Next round he misses with his long sword, but hits with his mace for 24 damage, downing the first skeleton. Lilrie attacks the next skeleton with her morning star, hitting for 14B crush and another 6 damage. Brovar then misses with his long sword but does 8 damage with his mace. The skeleton then attacks Brovar but misses and Lilrie also misses with her attack.     Again we all feel drained during the combat but have to carry on. Brovar does a 15C crush with his mace, shattering the skeleton in half, knocking it down. Lilrie attacks the next skeleton hitting for 29E crush, doing an additional 12 hits, gaining initiative next round. The skeleton misses Lilrie and those closest to the fighting feel even more drained. After gaining initiative Lilrie fumbles with her morning star and stumbles, barely avoiding falling into the pit with the spears and stunning herself for 3 rounds. Luckily Brovar hits it for 28E and takes it out. After the fighting Lilrie heals Sai Kyo twice for 9 hits taking him back up to 36 hits.     We leave the room with the levers and head back to the unexplored room to the North of the acid pit. We all make it across, but Baka has a scare and is helped across by Digby. Tripp checks for traps on the door that we find but is not sure and tries to pick the lock. As he does so the floor opens up beneath Sai Kyo, who with incredible agility, manages to get back. The door opens to a blank wall. Another evil trap by this duplicitous dungeon master! We decide to go back aboveground to our camp with the horses, spending the night and reprovisioning with 2 days of rations. We rest and all get 8 hits back so Baka is on 20 and Sai Kyo on 44. The next day we go back and down the long flight of stairs, taking 2 or 3 minutes to do so, going down about 50 feet. We emerge into a room about 15 feet square with a glowing brazier in the centre and it is unclear how it keeps burning. There is a corridor to the West and in each of the four corners are alcoves with large stone statues of armoured knights with long swords, which look very life-like and about 7 foot tall, and all looking the same. Sai Kyo starts to hack away at one of them with a crowbar, and does some damage. We head down the Western corridor checking for secrets doors but finding none. Tripp opens the door at the end and we find a room with a large sarcophagus and two coffins. We take the flask and note the word on the end “nepo”. We lever the lid open and see the same spikes going to the bottom with crushed bones. We examine the interior, and take the lids off the other coffins but find nothing of interest.     Going back to the square room with the statues, Baka and Sai Kyo search the brazier and find an elaborate key in the coals made out of bones and they are able to get it out. It is very intricate, but has no writing or runes. Searching the room, we find nothing else until Brovar somehow both identifies and opens a secret door to the East. Tripp also finds one to the South. The one to the South opens into a room with a high arched double doorway made out of huge bones, with lit torches on either side. Tripp searches it for traps with no luck but the key fits perfectly and unlocks the door with a satisfying click.     The door opens into a large room, and the air is chill and dank and feels thick to the touch. There are six thick pillars of bone supporting a high vaulted ceiling also of bone, 35 foot above us. An enormous stone sarcophagus dominates the room. On each of the sarcophagus are 9-foot-tall bone statues and behind it there is a massive stone altar. The crystal flask in front of the sarcophagus is twice the size of the others and the word “nanaw” is engraved at the foot. In the deathly still we can hear some tapping and scratching, which seems to be coming from behind the altar. There are iron bars in the East and West walls of the room. Tripp moves forward and picks up the flask and immediately one of the statues animates as a bone golem. Thanks again Tripp. Just thanks. Digby attacks first with a good strike but only gives it 6 hits and the bone golem hits him for a 13E unbalancing critical in reply, stunning him, knocking him back and he takes another 12 hits. The bone golem’s second attack does another 2 damage as the bone golem grabs hold of him and forces him to parry next round. Undaunted Brovar attacks with his long sword for 6 damage, and 8 damage with his mace. We feel that draining sensation again. Oh shit.
