Diary Entry - Jeralt Caryn
It is late but I have finally managed to gain entry to the Prison of Crolos. How many years have I been searching for this, I forget but finally I am here though quite how I will escape remains to be seen?
The Prison is exactly as I had read though how those responsible for his capture managed to bring him here so far from his home, defies belief. The shield is remarkable, it shimmers and has a bluish hue. I am certain that were I to touch it, it would be the last thing I attempted so I shall content myself with obverserving from a safe distance.
Crolos appears completely unaged and what he has been here two millienia, perhaps longer? I wonder if when awoken he will remember his purpose. Part of me would be interested to see such an event unfold, one can only hope that the Serpents who have remained dormant for so long continue to do so for there is no sign of the Hawks returning to oppose them. I have satisfied myself that the Oharith at Gulumi is still protected from discovery and with Crolos still in his prison his brothers and sisters can not return.
The mosaics are every bit as remarkable as the others I have seen, they rival those at Gulumi and The Forge and depict two key scenes that I have seen mentioned before.
One shows some signs of decay even in this dry atmosphere, my arrival is timely as a collapse of the inner surface of the dome on which it is laid seems likely. It depicts a meeting deep within towering icy mountains between six human sized figures which I assume to be the Serpents of Amnos and the Giant Crolos and his brothers. The leading human figure is holding a staff aloft, entwined with golden serpents apparently presenting it to Crolos. The artist has perhaps exercised some license in the depiction of the Giants, there appear more here than the twelve I have seen referenced in writings.
The opposite side of the dome shows a marvellous scene of Crolos battling the Queen of the Enduring. That such birds existed continues to astonish me and I wonder where she and her sisters have gone, far across the seas to the East if the stories are to be believed though they must surely be long dead.
