The Mantle of Ceremony

To be recognized as a Great Clan of the Crane Basin, a clan must have three distinctions to their name; A place to call home, a feat of legendary note, and a sacred treasure. It was the greatest boon of the Star, the patron spirit, or god, of the Bale-Fire feline clan of the Crane Basin, aside from giving birth to them, to bequeth unto them this sacred treasure upon their clans' completion of a great task charged to them. This treasure has been with the clan since their official recognition as a Great Clan, passed down through the generations. When worn, the wearer becomes akin to an echo of the Star and all enemies of the clan do well to fear it.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Mantle of Ceremony appears as a masterfully crafted set of robes, a deep mixure of hues transtioning from grey about the shoulders, to blue about the torso, violet around the abdomen, then black from the hips to the end which sits just above the wearers ankles. The robes are dotted with silver and gold thread stars, giving the entire robe the appearance of a tapestry of the night sky. A striped sash of the same color pattern, with the addition of red is used to bind the robes closed around the wearer.   The mantle is a set of robes, the threads of which have been deeply infused with raw wilde power. It will not, however, simply allow anyone to use it. The wielder must be of the royal bloodline, or designated as a great champion of the clan by the royal bloodline, or the Star themselves. This is because to be intuned with the treasure is to be able to take on the visage and an echo of the awesome power of the Star.   When activated by the wearer, the robes fully conform to the wearer's body and becomes like a second, more durable than steel, skin. Starting from the shoulders and about the wearer's neck will ignite a mane of pale white flames that rage and lick like the flames of a stellar body and as time passes while activated, the flames will spread down to the wearer's feet until they are fully armored in the flaming vestments of their patron spirit. Additionally, claws will extend from their hands upon activation that can shift their size, dimensions, and form as the weilder likes. As expected, the wearer's physical abilities will increase gradually as the flames continue to spread across the garment; speed, strength, durability, etc. It is said the weilder will become more and more like a shooting comet across the battlefield.   Once the wearer is fully engulfed by the form, they will have a limited time to utilize the full potential of the treasure before it suddenly and without warning disipates and becomes dormant for a time. There is no specific time limit shared outside of the weilders or clan, nor does the wearer experience anything more than exhaustion after achieving the exalted state.

History

It is believed by the Bale-Fire clan of the Crane Basin that in the early years of the Age of Legend, the Star tasked one of their children to walk the mountains of the basin for nine lifetimes, after the completion of which, the Mantle was bestowed upon the clan as a symbol of their devotion and as a token of esteem from their progenitor. The mantle would serve the leader and champions of the clan for all time. And so it has been passed down from ruler to ruler since that time.

Significance

It is not only a symbol of leadership among the Bale-Fire clan, but is a reminder of their heritafge and from where they had come from, as well as what they had done in order to claim their place of prestige and power in a wild and sometimes unforgiving place as the Crane basin. It reminds the clan that the Star is alwasy with them, their patron spirit and god and that in their darkest hours, the Star may walk among them in the form of their leaders and champions.
