Notes on Reflections
"The Reflections' armor and swords were made of a polished metal of unknown substance. It was stronger than iron and as sharp as obsidian. The intricate lattice of engravings often depicted moons or words spoken by the Lady of Mirrors, which were said to glow a pale blue or yellow when they connected to their divine energy. Since the Reflections are so secretive of their gear, I unfortunately can not do the detailed analysis as I usually do on how it is made, nor can I discuss the craftsmanship considering I do not have a physical piece to examine." -Part of a very detailed blacksmithing primer on different groups' styles and techniques titled Armor of the People: A Battlesmith's Guide to the Many Techniques of Different Cultures
Though most entries in the book were pages upon pages long, the reference to the Reflections was painfully short. I am not sure the writer ever saw a piece in person, though the description of their weapons my sword almost perfectly. It was written around the 8th century, maybe they were not as active then since there were fewer wars during that period so there was less of a chance to see their craftsmanship?
"Zetia's small army of mages and archers traveled through the hills of Leaky Cliffs Lake to what is now referred to the 'Battle for Wordrit', after the small village that was caught in the crossfire between the two kingdoms. Assisting them were the Reflections, who acted as the front line for the army." -A summary of a small battle from King and Country: Zetia's Rise to Power
Presumably the Reflections were a common enough term at the time the book was written (in the late 4th century) to require no explanation. The book goes on further to mention some of the battle strategies used, but they do not seem unique to the Reflections and felt more like a generalized plan that many leaders used to organize skirmishes.
"The Great Witch was gone and dead, ashes split among ten urns,
now that their enemy fled, Reflections to rest did turn," -A piece of an old poem titled The End of the Witch
This is the only reference the the Reflections in the poem, as it mentions a different group in each line.
"...when I saw the Reflections in the parade. They were so beautiful, with their long hair, shiny swords and helmets. One even smiled at me as she passed by. I want to be like when I grow up!" -An excerpt from a larger diary entry of a small girl who lived in Mountain's Shadow. Written in 556 AS and translated from its original old arhiil dialect.
According to this date cross referenced with others, the Reflections were active for hundreds of years, maybe even before the Solemnpeak Moot.
"Be ware the still waters, O creatures of night,
Be ware them for here's where she lurks,
In between worlds she'll set you alight,
Her pale moon glow take you down to the murks.
Be ware the cold moon, O creatures of shadow,
Be ware it for here's where she hides,
In between worlds she'll illuminate meadows,
Her striking form take you into Divides.
Be ware the mirror, O creatures of lies,
Be ware them for here's were she dwells,
In between worlds she destroy foul guise,
Her white sword strikes you straight to the hells.
Your repentance is coming, your evil's been stopped,
The Reflections are hot on your trail,
For the ladies of moonlight have never been topped,
Of your defeat they will regail."
A song titled "Lady of Mirrors"
I actually remember hearing this song in a tavern before. I guess it never occurred to me that this group is the origin.
