Assignment Summary
Three days ago a report came in that a village almost perfectly between the Eleteth Delta and Stormhaven has been afflicted by some form of magical effect that prevents those that stay in the village from sleeping, and when they do manage to sleep they suffer from night terrors. One of our best ancient historians, Dr. Grefinnal, has lived there for years, and is also under this spell. It is in the best interests of the Explorer's Society to both assist Dr. Grefinnal as his research in translating ancient texts and alphabets is crucial to a recent project.
Your primary assignment is to ensure Dr. Grefinnal's safety and help disrupt the magic that is harming the village of Dipsun.
Necessary Information
Dipsun: the village that has been struck with the magical effect. It was established 120 years ago as a small trading post along the path to the Eleteth Delta, but the route was mostly abandoned with the completion of a much safer road along the coast. Now it is a small farming town, with about 320 residents in the area and 170 in the village center itself who act as doctors, blacksmiths, traders, etc.
Dr. Grefinnal: a tabaxi scholar who specializes in ancient texts. His recent studies have been on why the eladrin written language changed so much over time, even though the spoken language is almost exactly the same. He is identifiable by his dark brown fur with tan eye-spots, though it is unlikely there will be more than one tabaxi there.
Travel Information: you will be given horses which you will use to take you to Dipsun. They will be ready in the stable at the end of the street by 8 AM. Leave the city by its southeastern gate and follow the markers for the Eleteth Delta until you see one that mentions "The Tradeway." Follow that marker and within 2 days you will reach Dipsun. You will know you are there when you see a small forest on the north horizon and farms to the south. The journey should take approximately seven days on horseback.
Additional Warnings
This magical effect is strong and could be brought on by a great number of things, all of them dangerous. Be prepared to suffer from the the magic as well once you enter town.
Recompense
Ensuring the Doctor's safety will result in a payment of 600 gold to split amongst yourselves. Additionally, you will be given additional rewards based on any artifacts found, which will be rewarded on a case by case basis. I must remind you that you are not allowed to steal from the villagers in the event that they found something of value beforehand. If it is important you can give us their information and we will negotiate a deal with them.
