Assignment Summary
A request has been sent in by Fleet Admiral Acoute, who asks for aid in dealing with the local suhuagin population on the Isles of Stone. The suhuagin have been attacking the currently under construction Port Prominence, which has many ships to stop pirates, but few men to spare on land. The lack of personnel has been exacerbated by the now frequent attacks by the suhuagin, which have killed over a dozen guards in the last month alone. This mission, while still protecting the interests of the Explorer's Society by stabilizing trade routes (and therefore creating safer travel for our researchers) throughout the nearby sea, is technically a military contract. As such, you will be expected to follow the orders of Admiral Acoute or whomever she decides to put you under as best as you are able.
In addition to the main goal of protecting the port, you will be looking for anything the suhuagin may have with them that is of cultural or historical importance. Priority should be religious artifacts, any written material, and anything that might be considered a curio or keepsake. Things like weapons or armor are not needed as the attacks have left the military with many of those for us to study.
Necessary Information
Suhuagin: a fish-like bipedal race that lives almost exclusively in seawater, but can survive on land for days before requiring to be re-submerged. The race has exhibited itself to be highly xenophobic, and all attempts at contact have ended in bloodshed. Additionally they do not speak any language commonly spoken on land, increasing the difficulty of communication. Non-violent options will likely fail during this assignment.
Isles of Stone: a small archipelago located southeast of Stormhaven Bay. It has very little life thanks to the craggy rocks that jut up from the island everywhere with rough gravel filling the parts in between, preventing both flora and fauna from flourishing. Because of this there are no major settlements on the islands, but pirates use them as hiding spots for their ships to ambush merchants. The construction of Port Prominence seeks to stop that by allowing for a permanent military presence stationed less than a day's sail from anywhere that pirates may try to seek refuge on the Isles.
Fleet Admiral Acoute: the highest ranking person in the navy and highest ranking woman in Hazra's military structure. She is known to be formal and polite, but does not accept her orders being undermined. As a friend of the Society she gives us special clearance to study areas that are officially closed off to most, and she lobbies for the government to give us a yearly donation in the name of societal advancement. As such she is extremely important to please. Take care not to anger her.
Travel Information: you will be sent by boat to the Isles of Stone on a ship called "Gold Memory," which is also delivering supplies to the port. It leaves from dock #129 at noon, and your writ of passage is included in this envelope. The ship will be accompanied by a military escort which will meet with the ship once it leaves the bay, so attacks on the open sea are unexpected. The trip will take 3 days to reach your destination in favorable weather, but realistically it will most likely take 5 to 7 days. After you have finished your work on the Isles you will be brought back to Stormhaven on the next available ship.
Recompense
Completing the assignment to Admiral Acoute's standards will award a total of 600 gold for you to split amongst yourselves. Additionally, you will be given additional rewards based on artifacts found, which will be rewarded on a case by case basis. Note that these finds are in general where the real money can be made for rover teams, so I recommend keeping an eye out for them.
