The Duchy of Valmot

The Duchy of Valmot is one of four nations making up the Eliron Region, an area of three Duchies and one Kingdom formed from a power vacuum created in the collapse of the Kingdom of Eliron in 1452. Its current ruler is Duchess Constantia Valmot, who has ruled since 1572.

Demography and Population

The majority of Valmot's residents are Cordaintine, with a small minority of Argeans and Kirinesian towards the coast in urban areas, mostly traders and their families.

Territories

Valmot sits at the point where the Orlendian Straits meet the Atloan Ocean. It controls most of the coast of the Eliron Region, the coastline only broken by the neighbouring Kingdom of Ciril, making Valmot the single largest naval power in the area. It borders Selerin and the Kingdom of Ciril to the south, and the duchies of Atlin and Ober to the east.

Military

The strongest component of Valmot's military is its navy, which is used in peacekeeping operations across the Atloan ocean. It maintains a small standing army, but receives the majority of the manpower from lords, raised only in times of war. It's standing army incorperates a small, 8-man guard for the Duchess, which accompanies her where she goes.

Religion

The majority of Valmot's population practise Libran, with a minority to the south that practise Selerin's decentralised form of Supradia.

Trade & Transport

The Duchy of Valmost takes an active role in trade in the Atloan Ocean, often acting as a direct competitor to the Kingdom of Emmerion in trade with Argea, Jheoh and Breklend. Emmerion tends to have an edge in most instances of trade, owing mostly to increases demand caused by trade relations with the Kingdom of Erdantia, but Valmot is still very capable of holding a strong trade economy.

Valmot exports leather and several food items, including grapes and dates, the latter of which originally came from Eseris.

Major Imports

Valmot has few mineral resources of its own, so frequently imports bog iron from Kirine and occasionally other metals from the Kingdom of Erdantia.
