Historian

The famous, mysterious and seemingly immortal Historian Aethelward's works make the profession of being a Historian well known, but many cultures have an over-reliance on a singular persons telling of the past. It is vital for there to be Historians in the world, else everything be stuck in an endless loop with no one ever learning anything from the past. Historians are often just seen as bookworms preferring to live in the past, but they are vital to the development of society itself. Many say that it is the victors that write history, but that is not true. It is the Historians.   Historians detail the world and time passing, but are never thought of as a valued profession throughout Velaria. Not only that, but they are held to a strict set of rules to not have their writings considered objective. Making sure they treat sources with appropriate reservations, indicate speculation and so forth.   The best Historians are the ones that write history, without bias from their upbringing or any ideals they hold. This is very rare within Elderforge, due to the vast differences between races and cultures, often times at war with each other. Most Historians write what they perceive, a Sorok Historian would detail the event that caused The Scar as a great tragedy where most of the great Sorok perished, but an Illithid Historian would write about it as a great victory for their Empire. Over time, especially since the Great Unite, more and more Historians are emerging with a love of history itself and devote themselves to telling it truthfully, leaving all bias out of it. These follow the works of Aethelward, the first Historian, who even though he has many opinions, keeps them distinctly separate from what he witnesses.

Career

Qualifications

There are no specific qualifications for this profession, which adds to the undervalued view it has. Being a Historian relies more on the person's specific writings and experiences. For example, a Historian that puts themselves in the midst of a mighty battle between two clashing armies would be much more qualified to account a recollection of the events for the history books than someone who merely heard of the battle. Due to this, being a Historian can actually be very dangerous. The adventurous ones that want to get as detailed information as possible are constantly putting themselves in harms way for an accurate writing of events.

Perception

History

The first Historian is known as Aethelward, a mysterious man whose writings put him at all the ancient events that shaped the world of Elderforge. Before he began sharing his knowledge of history, being a Historian was not even an option. The cultures at the time simply remembered what there parents told them, who remembered what their parents told them. Remembering the important information, such as we don't like the town down the river, they once burned one of our farmhouses, or don't go into those woods there are wolves in there, but not remembering any big picture notions. The introduction of the Historian profession opened the scope of history, and aided in the progression of society vastly.
This is a book where I will be detailing what I witness throughout the coming years. I hope that someone, someday will find this and learn from it. For me, now, it is something that will keep me sane as I live unendingly. But I believe that it is important. The past is something we should learn from, not forget. Maybe that is why I am here, to make sure the past is not forgotten.
