Seeker

Through the mist, a lithe wild elf strides silently through a forest, her bow drawn with an arrow of pure light. She whispers a word in Sylvan, speaking to the spirits of the woodland, and vines erupt from the ground, binding the troll lurching toward her. Her arrow streaks through the air, glowing green with nature's wrath, and strikes true.   On the outskirts of a desecrated grove, a cetandari man in bark-like armor kneels before the roots of a dying tree. He places his hand upon the gnarled bark, murmuring a soft incantation. A faint glow spreads from his touch, and as the tree begins to heal, his eyes flash with determination. He rises, shouldering his glaive, ready to confront the defilers of his sanctuary.   Amid a dry wasteland, a Botari hunter faces a pack of starving wolves driven mad by unnatural forces. She draws a circle in the dust with her spear, speaking out an incantation. As she finishes, the winds themselves answer her call, rising to strike the wolves down and put them to rest.   Seekers are champions of the natural world, defenders of the balance between life and decay, civilization and wilderness. They are warriors imbued with the power of nature, blending martial skill and spellcraft in a perfect harmony of might and magic. Where druids act as guardians and stewards of nature, Seekers take up arms to hunt down those who threaten it.   Their powers are drawn not only from devotion to nature but from a deep connection to its primal forces. This connection fuels their strength, sharpens their senses, and enhances their combat prowess. Whether wielding a bow, a spear, or a blade, Seekers strike with the precision of a hawk and the fury of a storm.

Protectors of the Wild

Seekers view the natural world as sacred—a gift to be cherished, defended, and preserved. To them, forests, rivers, mountains, and plains are not mere landscapes; they are living entities, bound by an intricate web of balance. Seekers do not merely coexist with nature—they are its sworn protectors, answering its call in times of peril.   Unlike druids, Seekers are active combatants. They do not rely solely on nature's wrath but wield it in tandem with honed martial skill. They are the shields of the wild places, interposing themselves between the wilderness and those who would destroy it. This warrior's resolve makes Seekers natural enemies of defilers: necromancers corrupting the soil, loggers ravaging ancient groves, or marauding beasts upsetting delicate ecosystems.   Yet, Seekers are not confined to the wilds. They see the creeping expansion of civilization and seek to ensure it does not overstep its bounds. Among the villages bordering great forests or towns nestled in mountain valleys, Seekers are revered for their ability to mediate between the untamed and the tamed.

Balance in All Things

Central to the Seeker's philosophy is the concept of balance. They believe that nature is both kind and cruel, nurturing and destructive. They wield this duality in their own lives and in their combat style. Where a Ranger might favor practicality and efficiency, a Seeker pursues harmony, aiming to fight with the elegance and purpose of nature itself.   A Seeker’s magic is a reflection of this philosophy, blending offense and defense seamlessly. They channel spells that protect the natural world, bolster their allies, or punish those who upset the balance. Vines erupt from the ground to bind their foes, radiant arrows imbued with nature’s light pierce through even the toughest armor, and storms rage at their command.   Unlike the druid’s broader focus on the natural order, Seekers are more personal and direct in their connection to nature. Their abilities are designed to enhance their combat effectiveness—turning the tide of battle in favor of the natural world. Their spells are tools and weapons, rather than divine gifts or sacred rites.

Masters of Bow and Spell

Seekers are renowned for their mastery of the bow, their weapon of choice, but they are equally skilled with polearms, spears, and even swords. Their ability to combine these weapons with spellcraft makes them versatile combatants. From the backline of a skirmish, a Seeker can rain down magical arrows, while in the thick of melee, they wield their weapons with supernatural agility and power.   Their magic augments their physical prowess. A Seeker can enchant their weapons to strike harder, their footsteps to move silently through any terrain, or their senses to perceive threats before they arise. They are warriors honed by both the discipline of martial training and the instinctive wisdom of the wild.

Wandering Champions

The Seeker’s path is often solitary, driven by an unrelenting sense of purpose. Many Seekers were once rangers or druids, their calling shaped by a significant event: a forest burned to ash, a sacred glade defiled, or an ancient beast slain for sport. For others, the path of the Seeker is an inherited tradition, passed down through generations.   Adventuring comes naturally to Seekers. They are driven by the need to protect and preserve the world they hold dear, and they recognize that the greatest threats often lie far beyond the borders of their home forests or groves. While Seekers may struggle to adjust to city life or the rigid hierarchies of adventuring parties, they value the opportunity to broaden their understanding and deepen their connection to the world they protect.

Creating a Seeker

When creating a Seeker, consider the source of your character’s connection to nature. Was it forged in childhood, running free through untamed wilderness? Did an elder Seeker or druid mentor you, showing you the ways of nature and its balance? Perhaps a tragedy—such as the destruction of a forest or a loved one’s death at the hands of marauding monsters—sparked your resolve to take up this mantle.   What drives your character? Do you roam in search of threats to the wilds, or do you act as a guardian of a specific place? Are you a lone wolf, mistrusting civilization, or do you seek out allies who share your values? How does your philosophy of balance shape your interactions with others? Do you view civilization as a threat to nature, or as something that can exist in harmony with it?
