The Day of Binding is celebrated on the 19th of Candens each year to commemorate the day that the then-mortal Ryujin made a pact with the first of the eight Guardian Dragons.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Ryujin possesses a commanding presence despite his lack of visible physical strength. His agility is legendary, with movements that flow as seamlessly and as gracefully as a river cutting through a valley. His supernatural aspect is marked by iridescent dragon scales that trace along his arms, back, and legs.

Body Features

Despite his deceptively frail appearance, Ryujin carries a serene aura the belies the immense power contained within his average-sized frame. His skin bears the faint, shimmering patterns of dragons ales, most notably along his forearms and neck, which glow subtly when he makes use of his divine power. His eyes are a shade of deep blue, reflecting the wisdom of ages and the depths of the oceans, known to captivate all who meet his gaze with a sense of both peace and profound respect.

Facial Features

Ryujin's face is a canvas of calm and wisdom, with high cheekbones and a gentle, yet defined jawline that hints at his regal heritage. His eyes are almond-shaped, framed by thick, arching eyebrows that seem to accentuate the depth of his insight and tranquility. A long, flowing beard, white as the purest snow, cascades down from his chin, giving him an ageless, venerable appearance that commands reverence and awe from those who behold him.

Identifying Characteristics

Ryujin is distinguished by the ethereal, almost translucent quality of his skin, through which one can occasionally glimpse the subtle, pulsating glow of his divine energy and ki. His fingers are long and graceful, tipped with nails that shimmer like polished opal, reflecting his connection to the celestial and mystical realms, as well as to the dragons for which he has his title.

Physical quirks

Ryujin's irises subtly shift in hue, mirror the changing skies—from the clear blue of a calm day to the dark gray of a stormy one, reflecting his mood and the state of the natural world. Ryujin's shadow constantly flickers with a soft silvery light, and is visible even in complete darkness when shadows would not normally form.

Special abilities

Ryujin can shift between his normal form and that of a powerful dragon, resembling a strange mixture of many different species. In dragon form, Ryujin is able to wield breaths of elemental fury—be it fire, ice, or thunder—that reshape the landscape and decree the fates of armies.
Ryujin's dominion extends over all dragonkind, though only within his homeland of Lungao. Outside of this land, his dominion wanes and he cannot exert full control over the dragons. Within his home, Ryushin's voice is absolute order for all dragons, and he can physically manifest a dragon to take control of its body and mind should he need to.
The Grand Dragon Emperor also commands the elements, particularly the waters and the winds. He calms storms to mere whispers or stirs the seas into wrathful tempests at his behest.
Beyond these awe-inspiring displays of power, Ryujin embodies wisdom and tranquility, his presence alone sufficing to quell conflict and inspire peace. His insight, said to pierce through deceit as sunlight through cloud, guides the devout and confounds the wicked. In times of strife, his counsel is sought, for his visions foresee paths marred by shadow or gilded by light, guiding his people toward harmony and away from ruin.

Apparel & Accessories

Ryujin wears a long, flowing robe, crafted from the finest silk that shifts in color from deep indigo to a muted gray, mimicking the changes of the sky and sea. THe robe is belted at the waist with a wide, ornate sash, richly embroidered with gold and silver threads depicting dragons and celestial motifs. His sleeves are wide and airy, allowing him freedom of movement with an elegant, fluid pace.
Completing his regal ensemble, Ryujin adorns himself with various accessories that signify his divine status and mystical powers. Around his neck hangs a series of intricately carved jade pendants, each bearing symbols of protection and prosperity. His wrists are encircled by thin, golden bracelets that chime with a celestial music when he moves and are said to drive away evil spirits and bring harmony to the land around him.
Upon his feet, Ryujin wears a pair of soft, silk sandals, their thongs twinkling with tiny gemstones, blending functionality with ceremonial elegance. His head is crowed with a majestic headdress that flows upward in a colorful and multi-layered design, all adorned with pearls and rubies.

Specialized Equipment

Ryujin wields several pieces of specialized equipment that reflect both his divine authority and mastery over natural elements.

Celestial Staff

A long, ornate rod crafted from an unbreakable mystical wood, entwined with silver and encrusted with sapphires. The staff is capable of channeling and amplifying Ryujin's control over water and weather, allowing him to summon rain or clear skies at will. The top of the staff features an intricate carving of a dragon's head, its eyes set with deep blue gems that seem to flicker with internal light.
The staff can also absorb the power of storms and rain, lashing out with powerful bolts of lightning and condensing the storms into elementals of water, air, and lightning to fight for Ryujin.

Mirror of Fates

A circular hand-held mirror bordered with rare alloys and runes written in High Draconic. This mirror does not reflect the physical world but reveals the spiritual energy and true nature of all beings that gaze into it. It serves Ryujin in maintaining balance and order, providing him insight into the hearts of gods and mortals alike. THe back of the mirror is adorned with a detailed relief of the cosmic dance between the sun and moon, moving in turn with the celestial bodies.
Any creature that looks into the mirror is affected by the Detect Thoughts spell, allowing Ryujin to freely read their thoughts and desires. Additionally, by pulling the sun and moon on the back backwards against their natural flow, Ryujin can peer into the mirror and see the past of what is reflected, going further back by turning back the sun more. Lastly, the mirror can be used to find and remove curses affecting any creature that looks into it, removing it as a physical manifestation of the curse that can then be destroyed.

Orb of Harmony

A delicate, glowing sphere that hovers near Ryujin at all times. This orb is made from crystallized dragon breath and emits a soothing, harmonious hum that can pacify even the most tumultuous storms or agitated creatures. It acts as a beacon of peace, radiating a calming source of tranquility.
Standing near the orb causes one's emotions to steady and become calm, allowing even the most brutal of creatures to become level-headed and be conversed with—though the orb itself grants no ability to converse with those that do not share a language. Additionally, a creature touched by the orb is instantly healed of disease and their physical and mental wounds begin mending at an extreme rate, being affected by the Cure Critical Wounds spell.
