Diction

5th Edition
You animate a pen or other writing instrument and it will begin to write any words that are spoken within ten feet of you. The words will appear in a language you can read. For languages you don’t know, it will write the words phonetically but won’t translate. No other details will be given, although emphasis will be noted. If there is more than one speaker, it will begin a new paragraph for each one. If you supply multiple colors of ink, you can also direct it to switch colors with different speakers.   If a spell with verbal components is cast in the area, it will be recorded as a string of meaningless symbols. Command words for magical items, however, will be recorded.   The spell’s range will increase when you reach 5th level (15 feet), 11th level (20 feet), and 17th level (30 feet).

This is a rare option

This option requires special permission to take. In the case of spells, psionic powers, and similar options, this option must be found in the world and cannot be taken upon level-up.
