Curse Item

Source: Elaris Unbroken

2nd Edition
This spell curses an item (magical or mundane) with a minor malevolent effect. The caster, as well as any other individual or set of individuals (such as "all town guards" or "all halflings") chosen by the caster at the time the item is cursed are not affected by the curse. Only magical items are allowed a save against the spell: saving as 10th-level fighters.

5th Edition
One object you touch, supernatural or mundane, is cursed with a minor malevolent effect chosen from the list below. When you cast this spell, you and any other individuals or set of individuals you choose (such as "all town guards" or "all halflings") are unaffected by the curse. Supernatural items can make a Charisma Saving Throw.
  • The bearer has a -1 penalty to all Saving Throws.
  • The bearer has a -1 penalty to Attack and Damage Rolls made with the cursed item.
  • The bearer must roll a d4 whenever he or she makes an Ability Check using a designated Ability Score and subtract the result from the Check.
  • The bearer cannot benefit from the Help Action.
  • Whenever the bearer rolls a natural 1, he or she takes 1d4 Psychic damage.
  • The item is unnaturally heavy, doubling its weight.
  • The bearer always feels slightly off balance, having Disadvantage on Initiative checks.
  • The first Attack Roll the bearer makes after rolling Initiative is made at Disadvantage.
  • Whenever the bearer rolls a Critical Failure, he or she must succeed on a Wisdom Saving Throw against your Spell Save DC or become Frightened until the beginning of his or her next turn.
  • Small or smaller animals instinctively avoid the bearer.
  • The bearer always looks exhausted and ill, giving Disadvantage on all Charisma (Persuasion) and Charisma (Intimidation) checks.
  • The item whispers to the bearer in strange tongues when nobody else is around.
A Remove Curse spell ends this effect. At the DM's option, you may choose an alternative curse effect, but it should be no more powerful than those described above. The DM has final say on such a curse's effect.

This is a rare option

This option requires special permission to take. In the case of spells, psionic powers, and similar options, this option must be found in the world and cannot be taken upon level-up.
