Maerthwatch Kingdoms
When word reached the other kingdoms of the Sea of Fallen Stars that Thay had not only rapidly expanded its borders and was harvesting a strange and powerful new material, but was doing so to repel an invasion from another world, the fractured kingdoms realised they were hopelessly and hilariously unprepared. Kingdoms on the south coast formed an uneasy arrangement based around the mercenaries of Turmish and their civilizing influence, the wealth of Chondath, and the hope that the peoples of Chessenta would appreciate the coming of a major war enough to put their minor ones on hold for a moment.
The result is a mish-mash of peoples and cultures, all bound by a common determination to resist the powers of Thay but at odds as to how to best accomplish this. The people of Unther look for a miracle in lost Imaskar technology and teachings on the Mulhorand border, while those of Chondath distrust any form of magical assistance entirely. Peoples of Chessenta, in the meantime, are considering if they have time to fight a practice war with their neighbours of the Maerthwatch Kingdoms before hostilities break out across the multiverse.
Although they number among themselves some of Faerun's largest militaries, there is no centralised authority pulling these nations together. When they do meet, it tends to be in Luthcheq, capital of Chessenta, just by virtue of its central location. However, it might be too early to assume this new empire will fall apart as soon as it's formed. Nothing unifies people like a common foe, and the dragonkin and genasi who frequent these lands tend to have the last laugh in any combat that takes place on their home turf.
Farming can be surprisingly difficult in these lands, so most farms here keep livestock. The Maerthwatch Mountains are rich in iron, but there is little access to soft metals such as copper. There are abundant sources of coal, however, so steel is plentiful, and Maerthwatch steel tools and weaponry fetch good prices in Waterdeep.
