Some gods, the Revenants, started to feel that it was their right to rule over mortals and guide them; others, the Protectors, instead believed that they should abandon the world, beneath them and their powers, and leave mortals to their own devices.
War ensued. For five years the land was devastated by this world-encompassing conflict and thousands perished in the fight.
After strenuous battles, the Protectors managed to defeat the Revenants and left the world, sealing themselves and their enemies behind the veil during what became known as The Abandonment.
