Once a trap is triggered, everyone who's reasonably close enough hears a click. Then, everyone who heard the sound can declare how they are reacting to the trap being activated. 
Depending on the chosen reaction, the DC of any saving throw might change (either increase or decrease), to the point of outright succeeding or failing without any saving throw.
