The Tale of the Skybreaker

Gather close, travelers, and lend your ears to an old tale, a legend of magic and ambition. it is the story of the Skybreaker, the first ship to ever cross the sky... and the must be tragic fate of its creator.
— - Unknown Traveler -

They say it was long ago, in an age when even the wisest mages believed the skies were beyond reach. The earth was their cradle, the seas their boundary, and the stars were meant only to be admired from afar. But one man, a strange and brilliant engineer, thought differently. He dreamed not of walking under the heavens but of soaring through them.

The creator was a recluse, his name lost to history, his face forgotten. Some call him the Skyforger, others simply the Nameless Maker. In his lonely workshop near the cliffs of the western seas, he toiled for years, fusing ancient runes with enchanted wood and celestial crystals. He built a ship unlike any that had sailed before—a vessel not bound by water but by magic itself.

The heart of the ship was the Aetherium Core, a shimmering orb of light and power. Forged during a rare celestial alignment, it drew energy from the stars and air, enough to lift the ship into the heavens. The hull was crafted from driftwood found near the elven shores, light as feathers yet strong, and its wings gleamed with enchanted metals that bend the winds to the ship’s will.

It was on the night of the new year when the moon hung in the sky and the stars shimmered like fireflies, that the creator’s dream came to life. The ship rose gently from the earth for the very first time, its multiple runes humming like a melody, and climbed higher and higher until it was a speck against the stars.

Witnesses, if there were any, might have called it a miracle. The Skybreaker sailed above the clouds, a trail of glimmering light marking its path through the air. The creator, at the helm, laughed as he saw the world stretched below him, the land and sea.

But his dream was not just to touch the skies. He sought to cross the Western Typhoon, a vast and deadly storm that churned over the western ocean. No ship, neither of wood nor steel nor magic, had ever dared to face its wrath. The creator believed the Skybreaker, with its power, could do what none before it had.

That was the last anyone ever saw of him. Some say the Skybreaker’s design was flawed, that the Core burned out midflight, sending the ship plummeting into the stormy seas. Others claim that the Typhoon was too fierce, even for the Skybreaker, and it was swallowed whole by the raging winds.

Whatever the truth, the creator and his magnificent vessel were never seen again.

Few believe the story now. The modern magicians scoff, saying that such a ship could never have existed, that the Abyssal Typhoon is impassable, and that no core could generate the power to defy gravity. But there are those who whisper that the ship is real, that it waits on the far side of the storm for those brave enough... or foolish enough to seek it.

There are those who dream of finding the Skybreaker. They say it lies beyond the storm, waiting for those brave enough, or foolish enough to seek it. Some claim the ship’s Core could still be rekindled, granting the power to unlock the skies.

And so the tale endures, passed from mouth to mouth, from campfires to taverns and from me to you.
