Episode 47

General Summary

The morning after their peaceful night at the House of Rest (for some), Collective Action gathers over breakfast to discuss their plans. With many opportunities and lingering responsibilities ahead, they deliberate their next move.   Blair, tasked with tying up loose ends, uses the city’s teleportation circle to return to The MacGuffin Gatherers. There, Tanfan greets them warmly, handing over the party’s reward for saving Okin. He also presents a letter from Archmage Zephryus, who once again thanks the group for their heroics. The letter extends an invitation to Zephryus’ tower, where he has restored his magical forge and offers to demonstrate its powerful item-melding capabilities.   Tanfan, with a glimmer of excitement, also reveals a special quest. Although marked as silver rank, the mission’s prestige and its 2000 GP reward have led Tanfan to entrust it to Collective Action, the guild’s best silver-ranked adventurers. The quest is a plea for aid from the Knights of the Vigil, a revered holy order devoted to Verja, The Goddess of guardians. Their request is grave: to venture into an ancient keep and reseal a terrifying entity known only as “The Imprisoned One.”   Blair reunites with the party, sharing the details of the new mission. Recognizing its importance, the group quickly agrees to take it on. Inadi Wintermoon is summoned to facilitate their teleportation to the mission’s location.   The party emerges in a harsh, frigid landscape. Before them looms the imposing structure of Vigil’s Keep, its towering silhouette casting a shadow over the snow-covered expanse. Battling freezing winds, they make their way up the treacherous side of the keep, eventually reaching its summit.   At the top, they are greeted by members of the Knights of the Vigil, who explain the dire situation. The Imprisoned One, a powerful evil entity bound centuries ago beneath the keep, is stirring. The ancient seals that hold it at bay have begun to weaken. Although the site was long thought secure, years of neglect have allowed dangerous creatures and sinister traps to infest the keep.   The Knights lack the strength to purge these threats themselves and implore Collective Action to take up the task. They entrust the party with a Ward Stone, which allows access to the keep, and a ritual scroll, essential for resealing The Imprisoned One in its prison. Before entering, the adventurers peruse a selection of discounted magical items gathered by the Knights and make their preparations.   Descending into the keep, the party navigates the first floor with caution. Among the eerie silence, they discover some loot, strange notes, and the chilling sound of a disembodied voice lamenting the cold. Soon, their exploration is interrupted by a group of spectral wraiths, their ethereal forms striking out with cold, unholy fury.   After a tense battle, Collective Action prevails, banishing the undead threats. Steeling themselves for what lies ahead, the group presses deeper into Vigil’s Keep, their every step bringing them closer to the heart of its dark secrets.
