Personal history

From a young age, he was taught the magic of his parents. His family had no tribe to call their own, and instead lived a nomadic lifestyle, partially due to Mahkia's parents having a, expansive reputation and were called to help in magical matters in many different places. They passed on their skills to him, which were focused on healing and passive skills. A tenet of their household was that magic would never be used to bring harm, as that would lead to a slippery slope of violence. Mahkia grew up in the time of the seer hunts in what would come to be known as Ahkna. This was when Unyctan hunters had found their way to Ahknan lands, and would track down known magic users to catch and sap them of their magic ability. They became a great fear to his family when he was about ten years old. As a result, his parents moved him and his six siblings around often, until Athan, a Mojocki tribal leader at the time, started talking of unifying the tribes to combat the Unyctan threat. Mahkia's parents had nothing to do with the actual establishment of the new united government, but were asked to become consultants to the rorak on all magical dealings. In his teenage years, he was showing great skill in magic, and had become good friends with Athan's daughter, Heth, due to their parents' frequent meetings. His older siblings, who were in their early twenties, were starting to settle with partners in marriage. This caused him to, after a string of overthinking, try and see if his friend Heth would potentially become his own partner one day. This train of thought was shut down in about a week as he sorted his romantic feelings from platonic, realizing that she was only a good friend who needed to be nothing more. Besides, his family's nomadic lifestyle kept him from seeing her too often. As he reached sixteen years old, the hunts had not relented. His parents were asked to assist Ahknan soldiers in Unyctan territory, leaving him in the care of his older siblings. However, this was also when Unyct grew more brutal with it's war tactics. Mahkia's parents were killed in battle before they could return home. Their ashes were never returned, and so their funerary rites were never given. A stigma surrounding magic started to spread throughout the country, and as a result, Mahkia and his siblings had to cut down on their normal work. He became more closed off from the world, practicing his own spells when he was alone. In his eighteenth year, the hunts reached their peak. His family was attacked by Unyctan soldiers, and only he and his older sister, Amadiah, managed to escape. She was mortally wounded, and refused his healing spells. Instead, she transferred all of her own magic to an amulet (Amadiah's amulet) and gifted it to him. After he hid, he saw nothing more of her. With his family gone, he wandered for a while, not knowing what else to do. He eventually found his way back to the capital city of Ahkna, where he hadn't gone about three years. He reunited with Heth and was asked to become the new magical consultant. Not entirely certain of what else to do, and wanting to keep his parents' memory alive, he accepted, giving up his nomadic ways. Living in such close quarters with them, he soon grew close with Heth's sister, Talah, and married her when he was twenty-three. He hoped that their children would eventually become the powerful magic users that his own family had been, but their paths steered away from magical practices and more towards politics later in life. He never really recovered from the tragedy that seer hunts caused, even though they were officially claimed to have ended when he was twenty-two. He dedicated his work with the royal family to his own family, as well as all those who'd been killed in the hunts. Suffering from PTSD in his later years, he began to create multiple spells of his own that would help quell the mind, which are still used in some soldier circles in current times.
